Can the my desktop's 128MB nVidia Geforce 6800 video card run the 1920x1200 resolution inherent in the Dell 24" 2405FPW?

Also, is my card up to gaming with this screen or will it be a laggard?......

Please advise.

I would think it can display that just fine in 2D, but 3d don't even try it.

You could probably game lightly on it, but don't expect anything huge. Every graphic detail would most likely have to be turned down. I can run HL2 1600x1200 with an average of about 40-50 FPS and even up into 60's with my 6800nu with 0xAA and 0xAF with everything else on Med and low.

Really? I get 60-120 FPS with my XFX 6800NU with 2AA, 0AF, Simple Reflections, Shadow detail LOW and everything else HIGH... Dell 2005FPW 1680x1050...

You don't have to run games at that res anyway. But.. if I can play DAOC Catacombs and Flight Sim 2004 at a decent rate with my 9800 I would think your 6800 would do well.

You can do a 1:1 or aspect on that monitor if you don't mind having black bars on the side for "non-wide" aspect ratios. If you do a 1:1 at say 1280X1024 then that is how many pixels on the lcd will be used.

If you buy that monitor I hate you.

Unless of course you give it to me then I love you.

Either way I am seriously jealous lol.

It should be able to run in that resoulution well in games. I remeber somone saying that they run farcry on 1920x1200 on a 6600gt, so you'll probably just need to turn the graphics down a bit.

1920 x 1200 = 2304000 pixels

1600 x 1200 = 1920000 pixels

1680 x 1050 = 1764000 pixels

with only 128MB of ram that thing is gonna be a dog I think. Of course you can lower the res to some other wide screen res and it will probably be fine then.

Hmm.. that makes me wonder. I think something might be screwed up with my drivers / mobo chipset. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Well, like ohnnyj said, I do have an Athlon64 system. I'm using 66.93 drivers from nVidia... my 6800NU is unlocked as well...

I am surprised no one has mentioned this, but you won't be able to use the DVI connection with that card unless it has dual link DVI, and don't think it does. If you want to spend $800 on a monitor like that just use VGA, go for it, but if you are counting on DVI, you will be looking for an expensive video card. As far as just driving that res, you shouldn't have too much problems.

Good luck!

As is mine, hehe. Look at the thread in my siggy. :)

Anyway, I reinstalled my drivers and mobo chipset and got about a 3k boost in 3dmark03 (to 10500ish... that alright?). I still gotta run some tests on HL2 but I'm pretty sure it'll be good. Those 71.84 XVG's must've not installed right or something.

I have the 2405 coming soon. I have a BFG 6800nu, you got me worried. Please explain.

Thanks, Scott.

Dual DVI will be needed for screens bigger than 24". Apparently, the only way to run the Apple 30" is with dual DVI, which I believe is only available with the expensive 6800 Ultra.

I'm running the 2405 (arrived today :) ) on my 6800 nu. CS:S in windowed mode at 1680x1050 looks great; details are high and aa/af are at their lowest settings.

Get this screen.

The maximum resolution for all 6800 series cards without using the special dual output cards for Mac Cinema Displays is 2048x1536 through both analog and DVI.

Edit: All games should play well at the native resolution as long as you DONT use Antialiasing.

I've been looking at this monitor for my 6800GT SLI setup - how good is it really? For gaming, I've been kinda put off TFT's because of black/grey/white change latency and ghosting issues - but can this expensive beast finally make a good job of it?

Can you force games like HL2 and Doom3 to 16:9 ratio resolutions, or do they appear as options if ur GFX card can do them, as I don't remember ones as high as 1920x1200 being offered in any menus... :-?

Also, I do a fair bit of prosumer level Digital Photography with my Canon 20D SLR, so I wondered if anyone could tell me home good the colour repro is?

I apologise for the hijack, but this thread hadn't been added to for a fair while, and didn't seem to warrant starting another on such a similar subject..

Many thanks in advance,
S.

Agreed

1600x1200 plays great on a 128 MB 6800

Couldn't you just test out the resolution on a CRT and see how that runs? Try playing at 1920x1440 and see if the card can take it or not

nahh i doubt it...it would be really laggy...unless he sets everything down to low...it may work then!!

yeah it could be laggy - still I would think that would be a good way to test out the capabilities of the card without going out and spending on the LCD first.

I also have an eVGA 6800 128mb, and am considering picking up the 2405fpw. Currently testing games at 1920x1440 on a 21" CRT isn't bad at all (ok FarCry is the only one I've spent much time with so far). I do have one vertex shader unlocked, plus Oc'd the card to about 385/810. Unlocking to 16 pipes seems to give me trouble unfortunately.

off topic, but the xfx 6600gt has dual dvi out. you don't necessarily have to get the highest end card to get this feature.
