My 97 Maxima Fully Loaded SE is only a mere 180 I think or 190. I want the 255! :| Sweet ride though I will take it over the 325i any time. (My friends car)

Camry / Maxima is not the comparison. Maxima compares to the Avalon, Camry to the Altima. Those are how they compete.

I dunno if I should even reply to this thread since everyone would know my reply anyway.

Get a Camry...plain and simple. If it's for your mother, she probably won't even appreciate the qualities that the Maxima offers. I know my mom doens't. Don't get the '02 Camry either. Get the '01 Camry that's sitting on the lots. It looks better, is probably cheaper, and has better quality in terms of interior rattles, better quality plastics/etc..

IMHO, the best Camrys were the '93-'97 (like NFS4's Camry) and the '98-'99. They had the better & quieter ride than the '00+. This is from my personal experience.

Every year, the cars get better features but the non-important materials such as trim pieces, door panels, etc.. get cheaper. For people like me, it doesn't matter..but your mom might probably notice the rattles and flimsyness.

If I was your mom, I would get the 4 cylinder Altima 2.5s.
I know you said she wants a V6, but this is no average I4 we are talking about here.
It has 175 HP (more than some V6's out there) vs Camry V6's 190. It has pretty high torque for a I4, and 0-60 times for both V6 Camry and a I4 Altima will be in the mid 8 seconds. It's a bigger car then the camry inside. And a 4 cylinder Altima starts at about 18K, while V6 Camry starts well into the 20's. Styling wise, it's a matter of choice.
Reliability of Nissans is right up there with Toyota.
You get more car with an Altima.

<< The new Camry looks nice and it's BIGGER than the past camry's
I personally don't realy like the Roundness of the maxima.
Nissan Altima is pretty decent this year too.

I think our parents need a big luxurious looking car.

Go with the new 2002 Toyota Camry or 2002 Altima.
I told my parents to get the 2002 Camry since they needed a new car too. They have a whole collection of colors too.
I think the selections are
LE, SE, XLE
We got the lowest LE V4.. but it's still NICE.

I thought it was inline 4. Does anyone even make a V4. I think except for Subaru's boxer, everyone else is inline.

Its an Inline-4. I have a '96 Camry 4 cyl. Only thing I hate is I have to kinda plan my passes on the highway because of the low power (125hp/145lb. torque)...but its fine for one person plus gas mileage is pretty good.....

I would rather get the Altima 3.5SE now than the Maxima because of the maxima's rear suspension.......but in all honesty the Camry will hold its value better no matter how much people think the Maxima is better than the camry.....

I have 105,000 miles on my car and it still feels super smooth.....

Everyone makes fun of the Maxima's rear beam, but it practice it works. The '02 Maxima feels tighter around the curves than the '02 Altima. Hell, the Sentra SE-R has a rear beam and it handles amazingly. Same with the 1st gen CRXs, they have a rear beam and they are great auto-X cars.

The beam is fine. I have 1996 Maxima with only front strut brace and rear sway bar for handling mods, with stock suspension, and I get comliments from my Accord owning friend on the tite cornering.

My dad has a 2002 Camry and it's fvcking awesome. I love that car. It runs nice. I'd highly recommend it.

However, if it was for you, id recommend a Maxima.
