hey vanilla is the best selling flavor of icecream.

Taking a page from NFS4's book: 12% of the Camry's sales come from rental/fleet sales. Technically then, the Accord is the best selling car in America 😛 (Brandon always seems to rub in that the Taurus has a high fleet/rental sale) But hey, I guess America likes boring. I can almost guarantee that Toyota would see increased sales if they updated that dash. I cannot be the only one absolutely repulsed by it.

oh i'm repulsed by it to. I HATE HORIZONTAL DASHES!! It bothers me to no end.

I enjoy dashes that flow down..like a waterfall. Similar in design to Mazda3's dash or 4th gen Maxima or TL, etc.. its very elegant compared to the Buick travesty in the Camry.

bunch a great critics here, WTF POS do you drive? toyota makes a fine vehicel, i own a mazda p5, but know quality...an ugly car is the New GTO or any other Pontiac for that matter...at least the Toyotas are sleek, powerful and well made.

eh, the camry is just screaming "im boring"

why cant they take a hint from mazda 6 sales...

You mean sell LESS?? Mazda 6 doesn't come close to matching the Camry's 400,000+ a year.

Ya, but at least the 6 doesn't suck 😉

Sorry, someone had to say it.

And Mazda isn't nearly as profitable as Toyota😛 That's why Toyota makes so much money. They give the buyer what they want.

they give hte average buyer what they want. Not what some of us automotive nut-cases want. Mazda and Nissan (and previously Honda) catered to us, but Honda joined Toyota's side now.

There's definately more money on the other side, but I'll be damned if I care. I so wanna see a SRT-4 type car from Toyota. Take the Echo hatch, strenghten the chassis a bit, slap in the 180hp 1.8L, fiddle with suspension/brakes, and bammo..you got yourself a winner. That peaky bitch of an engine is perfect for the Echo hatch. PERFECT!

btw, apparently Nissan is more profitable per vehicle than Toyota or Honda. Of course that shows in the plastics 🙂P) but regardless its bringing in the dough. Toyota obviously makes more money due to its insanely high sales volume (and still high profit margin..but not as high as Toyota).

Also you guys know WHY the taurus is a rental fleet fav? Simply because Ford wanted to boost sales number of the Taurus just to get headlines over the then best selling Accord. They shot themselves in the foot cause it turned buyers away eventually.

And thats a big difference between domestic and Japanese automotive companies. Domestic companies brag about sales numbers and are very flashy, while Japanese companies let the product speak for themselves. They stay relatively low-key about sales numbers.

So we're not entitled to our opinion about how ugly a car is?

TORRANCE, Calif., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., announced manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRP) today for the 2005 Camry sedan. The 2005 Camry arrives in dealer showrooms today.
All Camry sedans receive enhancements for the new model year which include a restyled front fascia, grille, headlamps and rear taillamps. In addition to these styling changes, the Standard and LE grades receive new wheel cover designs. The sporty SE model receives a new unique grille, with 17-inch alloy wheels now standard on SE V6 models.

Anti-lock Brakes (ABS) are now standard on all 2005 Camry sedans. Automatic transmissions on the four-cylinder models have been upgraded to a smooth-shifting five-speed electronically controlled transmission with intelligence (ECT-i).

Inside, comfort and convenience features are enhanced. Lexus-like Optitron meters on the instrument panel, steering wheel audio controls and a rear center headrest are now standard equipment. Standard, LE and XLE four-cylinder models come with new fabric, while XLE V6 models are now equipped with standard leather-trimmed seats.

With all this added value, Camry prices increase $100 on four-cylinder LE, SE and XLE models. Standard grade and the premium XLE V6 pricing remains unchanged, while V6 LE and SE models receive a price increase of $120 and $310, respectively.

Not bad - the camry and ES are middle of the road to me - I don't love them, but I don't hate them.

The new Camry looks decent. I used to hate the interior too, but now that I have spent so much time in it (gf has a Camry XLE) I kinda like it. Very functional and it has grown on me. IMO the Camry looks 10x better than the Accord sedan. That and the Galant get the prize for the ugliest family sedans from Japan.
The ES is still looks like it came out from Sponge bob square pants. The projectors headlight look really bad. The current design looks better

eh, the front is fine, back lights... WTF!?

I would rather have a 6 over the camry.. the only thing holding me back would be reliability. However, if I really was getting a new car, I'd want something smaller 🙂

What about the Camry with a V-6, is it going to be competitive with Nissan Altima's V-6?

the camry is a stylish and affordable family car. if you are on a budget and need a decent ride, then it is the car for you. dont expect to pound pavements or do any extreme cornering with this thing but if you want a comfortable commute from home to work everyday and a really comfortable ride out of town, then this is the car for you!

cant you tell that i own one?

Keep stretching those headlights Toyota, I don't think you've quite reached the fugly-factor you're looking for just yet

Camry doesn't look too different from what it is now. Maybe the interior is a bit better.

It's a tall car, though. Or maybe it's just the seating position in my Mazda 6 is lower but whenever a Camry goes by or I pass one, it seems like the Camry is a good 6" higher.

The Camry is just oddly proportioned. Tall, narrow, with small tires (in stock form). The Performance package does make it look MUCH better though IMHO.
