campus police jurisdiction?

our campus police are actual county police officers... but in "university" police cars. Can they pull you over off-campus?

If they don't have the solid red light on when behind you, you do not have to pull over. Flashing lights are just that, but the solid red light means you have to stop. I asked an officer about this when he visited class in HS, and he confirmed it. This is cali btw.

my roommate is swearing they can't do jack.

This is in georgia..

anyone have a website or anything as proof?

On my campus, the police have the ability to do anything a normal force would, EXCEPT for traffic violation-type enforcement.

why don't you go to the library and look up the laws for your state?

all these californians here aren't going to tell your your state's laws

if the campos are real cops as opposed to a rent-a-force, they can pull you over off campus.

but here at Rice, our campos are cool and are really friendly and let us do whatever the hell we want.

Rather than being a dumbass and finding out the hard way, why wouldn't you just let them pull you over, get your ticket, and just look up the laws afterwords.

Our campus handbook states campus police officers can do anything regular police do. 911 calls on campus go right to campus police. This is in Cali, btw.

I would say yes, since they are officers.

On a side note, a rentacop at the mall tried to pull me over once. I just laughed and kept going. He followed me a couple of miles down the street before he got the hint.

I thought they were red and blue...

At least in Washington state they can; however, they will usually leave those issues for Seattle PD. That's actually been a huge issue over the last several years as UWPD patrols not just the UW campus but much of the U District, and the city and the university have had some repeated discussions about conflicting jurisdictions. As it stands now, Seattle PD has priority jurisdiction (or something like that) off campus except for University property; on University property, UWPD has priority. Or that's as much as I remember from some interesting incidents with a UWPD officer last August.

thats how it is here too, all emergency and police vehicles have flashing lights that are blue and red, but, the police cars have a solid red light they turn on when they are behind (or sometimes in front) a car; thats the light that if you see and the cop car {or motorcycle} is behind you, you have to stop and pull over.
