Camping at the beach?

Maybe if you're at some exotic location it would probably be a cool experience but at some beach in southern california? The beach has always been a one day event for me. Any longer than that and I'll be bored out of my mind.

We go camping at a beach a few times a year. The place is called Assateague Island. There are wild horses that just roam around; they don't bother you at all. The appeal of camping sitting around with nothing to do, drinking beer, and relaxing by a campfire. I love camping at the beach; Assateague Island is one of my favorite places to go. It's very clean, there's nice cool air at night, and you're on the beach.

Some people get bored at the idea of camping and sitting around doing nothing; others like myself think there are few greater pleasures in life.

QFMFT

We usually head to Port Aransas or Padre Island for our beach camping.

Beach camping is fuckin awesome. One of the best experiences of my life was on my buddy's land on Stinson Beach during the Leonid Meteor Shower on some shrooms. His family owned the last undeveloped piece of land on the beach, so we made it a point to camp on it quite frequently. They've since sold it for $1.2 million.

The campgrounds here in SoCal book up waaaay in advance. Better make reservations early, especially for holiday weekends.

I've found camping on the beach near santa cruz (portola i think it was called) to be highly enjoyable. Just get a tent, sleeping bag, firewood, and any other things you require to relax (beer, etc.) and youve got a great night.

We camped in Assateague on the way to the outer banks in August.

Oh my god the mosquitoes. Those things ate DEET for a light pre breakfast snack before eating me. And there were so many of them you couldn't get away.

Won't be doing that ever again.

The last time we went, my fiancee got eaten alive by mosquitoes; but for some reason, mosquitoes are attracted to her wherever we go. I didn't get bit by many though

I take it you don't surf?
No shat. Or fish, or do any other kind of water sport, or dig the sound of the Ocean as you drift off.

Beach camping is fun!

Nice bonfires at night. Some seafood. Kayaking in the ocean or surfing if you surf or wakeboarding or whatever!

Lots of fun.

I prefer camping up in the mountains, but on the beach is fine too. Nicer if you can find a nicer secluded area.

I must camp at the wrong beaches. I'm an avid camper, and the last time I camped on a beach was the last time I'll camp on a beach.

A couple of years ago I camped at Bahia Honda State Park in the Florida Keys. 6 things changed my mind about beach camping forever: clouds of ravenous mosquitos, the oven-like weather (even at night), the drenching humidity, the stench of rotting seaweed, the associated hordes of biting flies, and the party-all-night Cubans with their irritating all-night-long ethnic pop music.

Give me camping in the mountains or desert any day.

+1 for desert camping and dirtbikes/quads.

What?

I love camping on the coast. Nothing better.

Having a good meal, snacks, loads of beer...falling asleep with the sound of the waves, cool weather, and the perfect form fitting matress (sand), you'll hardly get better sleep than that.

I remember camping at Assateague Island as well. Great place until when it gets dark and all the crazy flying bugs come out. My friends and I made the mistake of attempting a camping trip in Calif and not have reserved a spot way in advance so ended up camping in the woods instead on on the beach, but it was fun nevertheless. Past couple years we've been doing an annual beach camping trip with my kids on a campground right next to the beach in Galveston but that's shot now I'm sure for a while. I love camping by the beach - the sound of crashing waves rocking you to sleep.

hahahaha, two weekends ago, we went camping in Western Maryland. There was a group of maybe 20 indian (not native american; think curry) men camping (no women) and they were probably 35 years old+. Wow, they partied Friday all day and Saturday all day, well into the night. And throughout the entire time, they were blasting this loud indian techno music. I wasn't that irritated though; I thought it was pretty funny. They were having a good time.

Beach camping is great. I camped on a beach here in Mexico for nearly six months straight several years ago. There was a whole community camping on the beach, some people had been there for years. I still beach camp frequently.
