What 7 megapixel camera should i get? I gotta stay under $300, if there are any 8mp camera that are "good" let me know...but i think a 7mp is my best bet for around $300!!!

well the way i look at it is that im not going to buy another camera for quite a few years after i buy this one so i would like to have the newer of the technologies that are out right now...

Let me put it this way, would you rather have an awesome 5MP knowing it will print 8 x 10's easily or a decent to bad 7 MP camera that can print bigger than 8x10?

Also we need more than just megapixels, what will you be using it for?

there is no specific use for this camera just to have one...i will be going to college in the fall 06 and thought it would be a good idea to get a camera so i can take pictures while up at college

okay lets just say someone walked up to you while browsing best buy or circuit city and said here is a $325 gift card that can only be used on a camera....what camera would u get?

For camera'ing( I like that made up word) on the go I would recommend looking into the Canon SD400 which can be found for $250 or so, or the Fuji Z1. Both will work well for those parties 😉

Both of which are 5 MP

Canon A95...FTW

You don't need 7mp and I wouldn't buy from Tigerdirect.

I would get the Canon A610, Sony P100, or a Panasonic FZ5. All 3 of those are completely different cameras. Since you really didn't provide any details...thats my suggestion.

Surely almost none of us actually need a 7 mp camera. There sure are a lot of us that want them, though.

A camera from TigerDirect? Whoever heard of such a thing?

In any case, you might look at that page and choose what looks good to you and then check it out at dpreview. Check out the reviews and then the reviews from actual users and hit the forumns at dpreview. There is a forumn for each brand.

Off that page I might would choose the Coolpix 7600. I've got the 7900 and I love it. That D-Lighting function is very nice.

I am not an expert, just so you know.

no good 7mp for 300
theres pixels..and theres detail. i'm sure u've seen what kinda mess u can get off a normal camera phone..detail far less than even that low pixel count. nikon d50 if you want cheap actual quality..though its still more than twice ur budget. but u do get what u pay for

i dont want a HUGE thing to lugg around with me i was looking for somehting more on the compact side...

sd450-550 then. cheaper cameras do tend to have smaller sensors which capture less light and are more prone to noise, high iso settings are not usable. dslr's have sensors near or same size as film. then theres the lense quality... just saying your 7mp requirement was unrealistic for the price and by itself not a good guage of quality. the sd500 is close at 330 at amazon though.

its not megapixels.. so dont fall into the trap.. its image quality. A good 5MP camera with good image quality and good lense will beat a freaking 7MP with low image quality.
I still have my 3megapixel camera's from canon image quality rocks!

Just started using a Sony P150, and I've been impressed with it so far. It's 7.2MP and has a 3x optical zoom, and it's also very compact. I've taken a few dozen pictures so far, and it's done a good job even in low light. There's some noticeable noise in very low light (concert), but for the size, the picture quality is excellent.

Compared to the Sony DSC-W1 which I also have, it's the clear winner. It doesn't have a slew of options, but that can be an advantage -- no ability to fiddle with so many settings! I got my P150 for $200, but it was on clearance. Probably have to buy P200 now for around $300.
