I shoot most everything from bellybutton, too.Originally posted by: Ornery
Yep, that's what auto levels wanted to do for me as well. But, I thought you wanted it brighter, which is why I thought your monitor may be off.
I think you'll be post processing all the 828 images as well. Like I said, if this camera dies, I WILL get the 717 or 828 for sure. Pretty much for the same reason as you. I shoot 75% of my images from waist level.
My guess is that you're right on the money about the 828.
If you get time, look at the 828 at dpreview. The untouched pics show a lot more color through haze than my 717 does.
I'd like to just have the 828 for a day to shoot the same subject matter and compare the untouched images. That'd be awesome.
You mentioned what the bike looked like the day you were there.
I wasn't there, but that retouched pic is what that scoot looks like in my mind's eye.
I like the blacker blacks, redder reds and bluer blues.
Maybe it isn't real, but it's really real to my brain.
My buddy just got a Nikon DLSR and I saw some of his shots to date.
They look just like my 717 shots and he has 3 grand in it already.
I'm teaching him how to photoshop and he's teaching me how to take pictures at high speed.
He's a track photographer and his film shots are absolutely awesome, especially his night-time pics.
I don't shoot race cars, but I do shoot a lot of sports and the shutter lag makes a big diff when you're trying to catch a ball coming off a bat.
1/2 the lag would make a big difference to me, I imagine it's less if telephoto isn't involved.
I also take all my shots after half-depressing (didn't think there was any other way).
Even at that, baseball is hard to capture. Speed is tough to grab with that camera.
I don't want to come off like I'm unhappy with the camera, because it's the farthest thing from it.
I absolutely love that thing. It's showing it's wear though and I'm sure it's days are numbered. I'm going to need new and it scares me to death.
