yup. i don't know who came up with the idea of putting a camera in a phone, because there certainly never was a need for it before. (and there still isn't).

Because I'd much rather have my Canon A40 in my pocket all the time 🙂

Camera phones do suck for taking pictures but they are getting better.
Truth be told, I end up taking more pictures with my phone than I do with my camera. I always have my phone but I rarely have my camera.

Isn't that what they said about personal computers?

At some point it might be unthinkable to have a camera without cell phone capability. Think of how it would change journalism if photographers could upload photos on the spot, like how correspondants give reports over phones.

i doubt it. Camera phones remind me of a Simpsons episode. Homer says, "I'm a white male, age 18 to 35. Everyone listens to me!" as he picks up a jar of "Nuts and Gum, Together At Last!"

Bragging rights only. I love it when people start going on and on with features of their phone. Then I go... mine makes phone calls, thats all its supposed to do right? Then they get all pissed.

Same thing with watches. I hear guys bragging about this function or that, and the 300 dollar model is better then the 200 dollar model, then i butt in with the fact that my 20 dollar model tells time just as well, and comes with an alarm.

I don't brag about my phone. It does a lot of things but I use those features. The watch is different. The features are less varied and more due to the quality of the time piece and lots of other things. We have about 3 or so watch experts here that know more stuff.

Vipter GTS most quite a lot of camera phones in the UK are 1MP and 1.3MP ones now. In Korea they have a 5MP camera phone!

The limiting factor will be the small lense and pants low light performance but I don't think many people will care too much about that. BUT also you get n ow phones with a FLASH for the camera! CRAZY!

My Phone has a 1.2 Mpixel Cam Plus Full camcorder that records to a 1 gig Memcard
integrated VGA camera/camcorder19
65K color TFT display
works very good and with bluetooth adaptor or IR in laptop I can transfer very decent images and movies..
Nokia 6230.. still pretty much Import only from Japan.. they slowly getting here but Cingular only company that Nokia says they will work with...
get an unlocked SIM card like em and it works with ATT/Tmobile too though..
I use mine ALOT great lil phone with a cam..

I paid 400 worthwhile dollars for my phone... it just happens to have a camera... i really don't care for it.

Cool phone. My friend has one.

It has VGA pixel camera and not 1.2MP though. Wasn't sure which phone you were on about as I was pretty sure the 6230 doesn't have a 1.2MP camera and most are 1.3MP for some reason or 1MP. Not seen many 1.2MP camera phones about.

Kinda OT in this OT thread, but what I don't get is I went to a concert last Tuesday night. Befor going into the venue the security folks were telling everyone that if they had any cameras on them to get rid of them because pics were not allowed.

Once we got in, I saw AT LEAST 20 people with their cellphones taking video of the whole show, and the security folks didn't do anything. And it wasn't like the people recording the show were being subtle about it. Kinda hard to miss the bright blue neon keypads and bright displays in a dark concert setting, you know?

So why even bother restricting regular cameras if anyone with a cellphone camera can get away with the same thing?

My camera phone was handy when I quickly took a picture of a hit and run and was able to make out his licence plate from the picture. 🙂

Great minds think alike.
That is, I agree completely with you.

I'll have to get a new phone soon, my trusty T39 is finally giving up on me after doing service for ~3 years or something like that(the fact that I drop it to the floor like once a week might have accelerated things a bit too...).

I'm desperately trying to find a nice phone without a camera, but it's freaking impossible.
Why can't someone just make a phone without a color display, 3G, camera, etc, all that useless bullshit, just a robust phone with great standby and decent buttons?

This T39 will be with me until it falls into pieces, that's for sure.

Yup perfect example.

As for people recording concerts most camera phones low light performance is p!ss poor...

Because they only care about people using professional video equipment, or at least semi-professional, which would include all minidv cams and practically all normal cameras. Camera-phones have terrible resolution and the video mode is laughable as well. There comes a point when it's not even worth the time/expense to enforce something that really has no adverse effect.
