I received 2 camera lenses from a friend of mine and I'm eGaying them (he says one is worth quite a lot) for him but first I need to find their value. So first I need to ID the lenses so that I can access the value of them. I can take some pics with a friend's camera, but I'd like to know specific areas that would aid in IDing them.

One is a Pentex and approx. 6 inches long.
The other is about 9-10 inches long (higher value, supposedly)

You know, there are these funny things called markings and serial numbers that make it terribly easy to identify things. Identifying an item as made by Pentax and 6inches long narrowed it down to about 50 lenses.

Ya know, funny thing is not camera lenses aren't exactly like computer hardware. There seems to be tons of numbers everywhere, making ID the serial number itself not as evident as computer hardware.

I posted their lengths because I thought it would help approximate their value, no more, no less. Take a chill pill.

*edit: typo*

I'm sorry I seem to have failed my mind reading class. Maybe if you do tell us what the numbers say like the aperture, and/or range of the lens we can be more helpful.

as already stated. Read the numbers at the front of the lens, on the inside. Disregard the numbers on the small end that connects to the camera.

Look at the front of the lens for two things

Something like 200mm or 80-200mm. Some number(s) followed by mm

AND

F = some number(s) as in F = 5.6 or maybe 4.5-5.6

Those numbers are examples..

Tell us what you find.

If you want to approximate value you aren't going to be able to do it on "length" as has been pointed out on here. Hell post it on ebay with no description of what the lens is or a picture and you might get $5 for it. If people don't know what they are bidding on you will NOT get a good price. But I guess it's not your stuff so you don't care if your "friend" gets a good price on it.

Thanks for everyone's suggestion. Here's everything on the top lenses:

lense 1)

LENS MADE IN JAPAN
No. 734912
Miida
AUTOMATIC
1:3.8
f=75~205mm
62* (the sign isn't exactly like an asterick, but resides in the upper right and resembles a zero with a slash though it)

Lense 2)

This lense gave more detail and by looking at the place you guys pointed out, I was able to locate what seems to be the lenses. Look at Lot 146 though I believe the serial number might be different.
What I believe to be the serial number for my lense is: 735904
Found a listing on eBay as well.

Found a listing on eBay as well.

This site has lens #1 in Nikkor mount.

It lists it's value to $15.00. I expect that's about right

You're kididng me... LOL. At $15, it's not worth even trying to sell :)
What is that leads one to believe that Lense 1 is indeed you say it is. I'm not trying to rebute you, I'm just trying to understand.

Its the same brand and specs many of these third party lenes makers make lenses in many different mounts and other then that they are identical. And being a third party lenses of an really of brand that price is probably pretty acurate.
