I wrote down the wrong time for a final exam in college and when I realized what had happened, the exam was over. I went to the Prof and told him what happened, and when he told me to just retake it the next term, I started crying and told him that I had to take a term off to work so I could make enough money for tuition for my last few classes (was 9 credits from graduating). He took pity on me and found a TA to watch over me while I took the final.

Awww............... Bryophyte was crying............... I mean.. HAHA *holds onto man card*

I don't have a man card. It was really embarrassing, though, because I almost never cried.

One of my male friends cried his way out of a speeding ticket. Something about having a sick mom and needing to help her with their Jewish festival thing (there was no Jewish holiday at this time). He totally got away with going 90 in a 70.

Once during exams, I was lying in bed, at 1:30 in the afternoon, so sure that my exam was at 3:30, but for some reason, I second guessed and hopped up to check the exam time on my computer. The exam had started 1hr before. I freaked out, threw on clothes, and hauled ass over there. Easy class, so I got an A.

Another time, I stopped going to a business class like a poster mentioned above, because they taught from the book, and it was IT, so I knew it already anyways since I was a nerd. I would check in at random times whenever I felt like it. Dropped in there, and saw that everyone had the scantrons out on their desk. It was the midterm, and I had no freakin idea what had been going on the past 4-5 weeks. I somehow managed an A on that test.

I'm 5yrs out of college, making good money with a wife and kid. I cant imagine how different my life would be now if I failed one of those classes.

At some point, you just should not bother showing up for the test and call the professor later in the day with whatever excuse and ask to take the test at any day, time and place of his choosing.

BTW, why were you late?

My sister was sick so I had to get her from school. I couldn't catch any buses to make it back in time.

Did you take the bus to pick up your sister?

if you borrowed your parents car to pick up the sick sis, you should have taken it to classes, you scratch my back....

Hell, I've overslept through a whole test, be glad you had 30 minutes!

Same here

You can usually do 75% of an exam in the first 30 minutes anyway. Its the other 25% that takes 1.5 hours.

^ I can't drive so I took the bus. Her school is really close to my university; within walkable distance.

came in 1 hr late to a test once, stupid DST and all that. It was a 2 hr class\test, finished in 30 mins and left. Got an A.

Was 30 min late to another class a couple years later, got B- or something.

You should have told your professor straight up when u showed up. I missed an entire quiz before and my professor let me take it afterwards (overslept).

Me and my roommate were late to a C++ class final before, we both set our alarms for PM instead of AM. What are the odds of that?! Anyways, we got there half an hour late and finished still.

Try a petition (how my school does it) and take responsibility for your screw up. Get more sympathy that way. Don't say the alarm didn't work, just say it straight, I effed up. Also, if you weren't skimming during the rest of the course, you should be ok.

In my intro to engineering class freshmen year I showed up to the final 45 minutes late. It was my first final ever in college. Thankfully, it was really easy and the prof blocked an extra half hour or so to keep it stress free for everyone. I actually left with 15 minutes to spare and even before a couple of the people.

If you're late I say show up still. You at least show an effort to go to class. I remember people came late to an exam because they didn't know about a room change. The professor stayed longer to let them finish.

If you're late, you should show up to class, take it, and maybe before u turn it in, ask the professor for extra time so you get the same as everyone else. It's a little tough to ask after you've turned in a half-finished paper (after being the next day or via email)

There are a few professors at my school who lock the doors at the start of exams...if you're late, you don't get in at all, and you get a 0.
IF you have an iron-clad excuse, you MAY be able to schedule a make-up test...sometimes with a point reduction, sometimes without.

I slept through a class event that counted for 5% of the grade. Dropped me from a solid A to a B+. Only B+ I ever got in a major class.

I slept through a midterm once due to being @ my GF's and setting her alarm for PM instead of AM (oops). I got an F on the test which fatally screwed my grade and I had to retake the class next term.

Maybe your prof will have more compassion.

I missed a final once. Found the professor in his office later in the week, and he proceeded to read me the riot act. I've never seen a man's face turn so red after I handed him the police and hospital report from my car accident. He gave me an incomplete and let me take the final the next quarter.

I had a little too much fun at the bar before my last exam.. I was still wasted when I took it. Couldn't remember the last time I was that drunk in the morning, and it just happened to be on exam day. I got a B-, but I don't imagine I would've done much better sober.

Meh, I took my 87 in a 45mph Construction Zone like a man. I had no idea whether to hand over my license or just get up and put myself in the back of the police car.

Not to stray too off topic...

Well, guess I might as well say that I've never had that experience sleeping through a test. I do have the ability to skip over half my classes, still make all the tests, and come out with the C when needed, and C+ if it was major required. C's for the degree.
