I was an hour late and only had 30 mins to do it. Needless to say, I'm getting a big fat F. This is the first time this ever happened to me. Anyone else experience this?

Talk to your professor - if they won't let you make it up before the next class, then I guess you have to take it as a hard lesson in punctuality :(

Ouch! I'm sorry to hear this happened to you. I've came close to oversleeping for a class before, but even at that I still woke up 5 mins before the class was suppose to meet. Everything went just fine :) That's def. one of the pros of living on campus!

At some point, you just should not bother showing up for the test and call the professor later in the day with whatever excuse and ask to take the test at any day, time and place of his choosing.

BTW, why were you late?

I did that once, but it was because I was cramming for my 2:00 final. I went upstairs to chat with a classmate, and he wasn't there. I got paranoid and checked my schedule, sure enough, the final was at 1:00. Needless to say, I tore across campus, arrived at 1:45 and finished before everyone else (Intro to Object Oriented Programming), I received an A- in the course.

My sister was sick so I had to get her from school. I couldn't catch any buses to make it back in time.

If that's the case, and it isn't an issue of laziness/forgetfulness/sleepiness/etc then try talking to the professor and explaining the situation? Maybe (s)he'll let you retake it.

You'll live. I once lived through every Freshmens nightmare. I stopped gong to class in a business class I had because it was being taught straight out of the book. I just showed up for tests and was doing very well. Well, I arrived to take the final in a large auditorium and all the lights were off except a small pool of light where the Prof sat at a desk next to a stack of blue books. They had moved the final up 1 hour! I still had 20 minutes left and the Prof. let me take the test. I finished the test and still got an A. I still skip an occasional class if I know the material but, I definately won't let it happen again.

I can kinda relate, I was soooo close to missing the biggest final of my (at that point) college career. Since I commute to school I had to get there in under 15 minutes to get to class in time, lucky for the the final was mid-day and traffic that usually makes my drive 30 minutes long wasn't around at that point. The professor was notorious for being one of the only strict teachers at my school too, so I knew I had to be there ON time (being even a minute late with this guy was not an option). Ended up with a B+ on the test and squeaked out an A- for Dean's List that year, but the feeling of desperation to make it there on time is something I'll take to the grave.

Did the professor give you the look like "Nice to see you. Go ahead, give it a try... We both know you can't get it done in time."

I hated that look.

I wrote down the wrong time for a final exam in college and when I realized what had happened, the exam was over. I went to the Prof and told him what happened, and when he told me to just retake it the next term, I started crying and told him that I had to take a term off to work so I could make enough money for tuition for my last few classes (was 9 credits from graduating). He took pity on me and found a TA to watch over me while I took the final.

If that is the case, then you should clearly speak with your Prof about this. If you cannot get satisfaction from the Prof., move up the food chain - Dept. heads, counselors. And if all else fails - school newspaper - they love this kind of thing.

I missed a big midterm during my 2nd year of university. Against my friends' advice, I simply went to the professor and told him that I had made a mistake. He said, "Don't worry, these things happen," and let me take it in a locked administrative-use room.

So what I'm trying to say is, talk to your prof and see if he'll cut you some slack.

I was always crazy early to tests (I showed up two hours early for the Bar). Plus, in college, I would ALWAYS take classes with friends and we would check up on each other before exams, etc.

I emailed him about it and see if I can retake it. If he doesn't respond, I'll just see him tomorrow.

If you have a real, legitimate excuse, professors are usually accommodating. Hell, even if you just overslept, many of them will help you out. We were students too, once, and some of us also slept through exams. Some of us even slept through exams that we made it to on time.

I'm lucky exams here are at night, usually around 6pm or 7pm. Final exams start pretty late as well.

Heh i would say your only chance of getting more time was right when you finished the test. He isnt going to let you retake it after you have already seen it....

I don't have a man card. It was really embarrassing, though, because I almost never cried.
