More info here than can be supplied in one topic. A broken camera is all the excuse I need to upgrade. I intend to do that before my current one bites the dust, though.

Your talking a $700 swing though between repair and "upgrading"... that's hardly a consideration.

Are you getting your well worn head replaced? How about the transport that screwed up in the first place? How much life is left in the CCD? Is the focus mechanism going to last another 5 years or puke tomorrow? Corrosion on any of the many contacts in that unit can render it useless all over again. As you can see, it wouldn't take much convincing to get me to crack the wallet for such a new toy.

i recently (about 4 months ago) purchased the GS250, http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Panasonic-PV-GS250-Camcorder-Review.htm, in my opinion, the best value in miniDV's today. it's not as nice as the gs400 but it costs about $300 less.

and the stills you can shoot with this thing are pretty good. it seems to shoot stills as well as my Sony DSC 80 (that one is starting to show it's age but was a good camera when i bought it 4 yrs ago).

low light shooting is a problem.

Im not arguing that a new one is more "ideal" but your poitning out a $1000 camcorder when I said my price range is ~$500. Thats like saying I need a nice affordable car and you point out the new Corvette.

  1. The TRV20 was damned nice for its day ($1800 if I recall)...

I'm willing to pay more for a better perfomring device...

Your reading comphension is horrible. You snipped to completely unrelated lines from 2 different posts for that matter. If your going to quote me, quote me accurately... you work for a major news company or something?

I said clearly $500 is the pricerange and Im willing to spend more if there is justification.

Good God, It's available for $500 all over the place with $50.00 rebate available. NewEgg fanbois are annoying.

Speaking of annoying, YOU'RE the one posting and asking for advice. YOU'RE the one who said in the OP, "I'm willing to pay more for a better perfomring device." YOU'RE the one who said $1,800.00 had been paid for your existing unit.

Here's some more advice. Shove your fvcking broken camera up your %*^&^# and go *))&(*# yourself!

Are you serious? You need to freakin' chill out I think. I NEVER stated I was willing to pay more than $1800 anywhere. You simply misunderstood apparently.

Newegg fanbois? You serious? Just elave the thread. I didn't ask for a-holes I asked for opinions and suggestions. Many of which I've gotten and am not making my decision on.

Thanks for your help asswipe.

  • For less than a hundred more than the DCR-HC90 users can procure the penultimate in manual control of Panasonic?s consumer 3 CCD camcorders, the PV-GS250. While the DCR-HC90 and PV-GS250 are close in video performance, the DCR-HC90 really wins in low light. However, when it comes to options, audio features, and manual control, the PV-GS250 clearly wins.
Mixed bag of Features
  • 3 CCDs do not compensate for the GS250's limitations. After a week, I returned it an bought a Sony HC90. IMHO it surpasses the Panasonic in every category except bright sunlight conditions.

How many MPs for stills on the Sony?

BOOOOOOO!!!! Dont you DARE buy a camcorder and expect it to take still pictures.

Good luck, I hope you're satisfied with the product and level of service you receive 🙂 That is a nice price.

Yeah I was leary of it too... Online buddy of mine who does a lot of video for his job orders a lot from them and had no problems with them... for $60+ less I'll take the gamble. Hell any warrany work is through manufacturer direct and I bought with AMEX so I'm not worried.

Smart move, please let us know how you like it 🙂

got the 150 just the other night (stupid holidays delayed it)
Regardless, man-o-man so very nice just out of the box. I guess my ONLY complaint it is that its too damned small! It feels and looks like a toy. So far so good with it. Im VERY impressed all around.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Sure... but its been raining and dark as hell here for the past week. Next semi-sunny day Ill record. What format you want? Raw .avi? mpg2? XiVD?
