I just got my set today, its replacing a set of cheap 2 dollar speakers that came in my friends emachine package. This set is going to a computer I use to watch TV from in my room, while my main computer has a set of altec lansing's...so far i havent tested the music or gaming but the mid range sound seems a little lacking. For the small sized subwoofer, the bass seems a tad hollow but pretty good overall however for the price. All in the all, for 30 bucks, this was a great purchase...now i can watch dvds on my tv computer too with the new speakers which im sure will sound great..

The lack of midrange is a trait of flat speakers. You can use Winamp or whatever you use to take care of it though. Keep in mind though that you have to have trained ears to be able to tell :)

Anyone had the problem of sound not comming out of 1 speaker? I just installed these on my wifes computer along with a K7S5A motherboard & cpu upgrade. I get sound out of the right speaker & subwoofer, but no sound out of the left speaker. I checked all the connections, and they are all in.

Another thing, if it is the speakers, is it worth shipping them back to Outpost instead of just getting new ones? I didn't know if the cost of shipping, time & hassle would be worth it.

Thanks,
Gary

<< Just a quick question... since I am using my onboard epox sound card (but i'm planning on buying a new one that supports 5.1 soon), if I purchase the speakers and the switch jack thing, do I have everything I need? I've never heard of those jacks so I'm not exactly sure on what i'm doing. Sounds like a plan though, so I think i'll order these now :) >>

all the splitter does is insert a male 1/8" stereo into the speaker jack from you sound card. the jack splits into two and at the end of each strand is a female 1/8" stereo jack. You plug your headphones into the one strand and your speakers into the other one. Your headphones always get the signal and you just turn off your speakers... like JahWren said... it's really, really, really not complicated... dont' make it harder than it is ;)

you will have everything you need with this setup.
>>

For better sound quality you may want to use an extension cord or some switching device instead of a splitter. With a splitter you may get distortion from reflections, especially when you have both the headphones and speakers plugged in. You also lose some signal because of the split and with a pair of speakers on one output and headphones on the other, you have an impedance mismatch that can cause distortions.

Guess I will really miss my Altec Lansing ADA 880r's now :( Maybe I can get another set though and have some surround sound with them :D

good deal for the money...No competition for any real speakers though :(

Must you guys keep finding these deals on speakers!! My ears are gonna go on me, in the last month I have bout a set of logitech z560's, 2 10" JL subs for my car, with a 260 watt amp, to add to my 2 sets of altec 340's (one for tv and one for the mp3 machine in my bedroom). I'm really tempted to buy these as a replacement for the speakers in my bedroom with the mp3 machine.... are they better than dell spec altec lansing acs-340's? Thanks, my bank account is gonna be angry...

lol Yes, the twisties were annoying!! Anyways I have tried out these speakers. They are definately better than my very old 2 speaker setup. They sound kinda dull when playing unprocessed sounds. (winamp, wmp without srs) but when I turn on the SRS they sound really really awesome! the bass really shines then, clear and not too muddy. if I play sounds through them without SRS or hook them up to my portable DVD player the bass is either not loud enough or muddy when I turn it up on the subwoofer. Does anybody have any suggestions to help me with that. anyways, I got my friend to buy these off me once I get the Logitech Z560's. I might keep them around anyways so that I can have a system upstairs and downstairs. hey my room is small so I may put Logitech's in the living room downstairs since it's much bigger than my room. that way I don't have to strain the Slim500's too much. just my 2 cents on these speakers. (not that I've ever had much experience with speakers and sound before)

Sounds like you have a lose connection inside the speaker. Here's what you can do....try calling Cambridge Soundworks' customer service line (go to www.cambridgesoundworks.com) and tell them the problem. I did this once for a bad home theater speaker a few years back and they shipped out a new one and paid for shipping back of the old one. Worth a try.

Got mine a few days ago. As something of a wannabe audiophile, these are not GREAT speakers, the bass is kinda muddled, the midrange thin, but as computer speakers, and for $30, I think they are GREAT. I am certainly pleased with this purchase. More than what I would have wanted in a computer speaker, if I want the absolute in kickass sound, I'll fire up my Home Theater system that cost me $5000..

Excellent speakers at an excellent price. I wish they were available in white or silver and blue, but they're small enough where I barely even notice them.

The volume switch also comes in very handy!

ordered and received them!
according to the specs, it seems dat these have better sound than the ATP3!!!
but the ATP3 is more powerful, by a lil' so the prices balance out... both r $80 retail, and i got the ATP3 @ staples for $30 after pm and coupon, and i jus got the SLIM500 for my sissy for $30 no hassle!

Well, I am very happy with my purchase. :) After listening to the Slim500's for a few days I can say with absolute certainty that these are the best speakers you will find for $30. Yes, they do not excel in any one area--the base is muddy, midrange is lacking, and highs are far from crisp--but for the price they are outstanding. I actually prefer their sound to both the Altec Lansing ATP3's and the Boston Acoustics BA790 speakers, each costing over twice as much as the Slim500's.

How about the Cambridge Soundworks PC Works speakers? Those are cheap and sound pretty nice. Any comparisons?

I've had these for about a week....And, not being an audio expert; they sound terrific to me. For the price, you can't go wrong. You would pay about $20.00 for crappy/generic speakers without sub anywhere else. May just order another one for the h### of it. It won't sound as good as the CSW digital setups though but then those are in the $99.00 and up.

do you know how these compare to the 3 piece logitech 340's for only 30.00? The big thing i notice is that the logitech's have a wood bub box wich typically sounds better, any comments?
