Cambridge, MA public schools get Muslim Holiday

Christmas is actually a recognized national holiday, celebrated at least as avidly by atheists and agnostics as by fundamentalists. Witnesses for instance do not believe in celebrating Christmas; some other fundamentalists believe in only a prayer ceremony, not a big celebration. This is particularly amusing (in a disturbing way) considering that Christmas break has been reduced to Winter Vacation.

If they kept all other holidays as their religious names (i.e. Christmas, Easter, etc) I wouldnt have a problem with this.

Where I went to high school, they acknowledge like one or two Jewish holidays a year. They still do it up until last year. I remember because they moved one of my brothers football games from like Friday to Thursday to honor it.

A few public schools in Maryland close for Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur. They're simply being pragmatic because they have a large number of Jewish students who'd be out of class on those days anyways, and staying open when a huge portion of your student body is certain to be gone is kind of silly.

Hell when I was in school the more days off for religious holidays the better no matter what religion it was.

Easter is not a Christian holiday now, and never was. Christmas never was either until Christianity after the fall of Rome decided to incorporate Pegan Holidays as their own to get the Pegans to convert over.

Good Friday is a Christian only holiday though that has been a traditional school holiday though.

Every holiday has a beginning. But to say the celebration of the birth and rising of Christ is not a holiday for Christians is...well...you know.

And just as we presume Jesus wasnt born on December 25th and just chose that day to celebrate it, it is presumed He was crucified on a Friday, thus the holiday.
