Camaro vs Hyundai Genesis coupe?

I don't care that they are comparing these two vehicles but why do they list each car's freeway mileage on the cover? Wouldn't it make more sense to list their combined mileage or average mileage during testing? Or how about listing both city and highway? Oh, that's right, because the numbers aren't nearly as impressive when you look at their city mileage...which is pathetic actually at 17mpg.

Honestly, nearly all of my driving is city driving as is anyone who lives in a major metropolitan area. Highway mileage is meaningless.

I agree. They should put something more relevant on the cover -- like the bloody horsepower. Who cares about mileage? I can assure you anybody buying either of these cars isn't looking mileage first.

How did the comparo turn out? From what I can tell, the Camaro belies its weight with good suspension tuning and performance tweaking, feeling like a very quick, responsive sporty car while the Genisis Coupe is a good first effort but tends to have a few nits and little issues here ad there.

Except for those of us with 90 mile round trip commutes. 😉

Yes, because you only do city driving it means everyone else must be the same.
While they should have put the combined mileage to have the most meaning it's not as high of a number. If somebody sees a higher mileage number than they would have expected for those type of cars they'll be more likely to buy the magazine to read the story. They're just trying to build up hype and move more magazines.

Oh, they put that on there too. It lists MSRP, HP and freeway fuel economy of both cars (V6 Camaro, not the V8 version).

Camaro won by a point.

booo to using the V6 version. Why not find something better to compare each car to?

If you have more than 4 cylinders and it isn't a hybrid your intown milage is going to suck. A V6 camry gets 19MPG in town. An IS250 gets 18.

Considering a Camaro has over 300HP and is around 4000 pounds I'd say 17 ain't too bad.

I'm almost positive the v6 Genesis is more expensive than the v6 Camaro. I'm sure they were going for V6 vs. V6.

I don't have the magazine handy but they specifically stated that the Genesis runs regular as a "neat feature", so I would assume the Camaro probably doesn't.

Why do you assume that? Every where I've read states the DI v6 is rated under regular 87..

I only assumed it because C&D stated, "Nice detail: Regular unleaded works fine in both engines." But you're right, looking at the online article, both run 87 octane.

[edit]Sorry, the above is confusing. I remembered reading the "regular unleaded works fine in both engines" on the Genesis portion of the article, thinking that it meant both the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder versions of the Hyundai. But they were referring to both the Genesis and Camaro's 6 cylinders can run regular unleaded.[/edit]

I just got back from the St. Catherines engine plant where they make the Camaro V6 (and some truck V8's and the LS3 and the LS2x). That v6 is a beautiful engine, and from what I saw I am actually going to give the Camaro a test drive. The union staff were actually reasonable,

I did most of the work I had to do myself, then showed them what they had done wrong and made sure everyone knew how to recover properly next time.
