The mustang of today looks more like a fat Pinto then a real mustang..gawd awful ugly Pinto looking thingy. That's what I think when ever I see a mustang these days. A frigin re-skined Pinto.:)

<< Ford sells about a billion base-model mustang to teenage girls. >>

correction, ford sells about a billion base-model mustangs to parents of teenage girls, who like to spoil there children..

while people like me had to go buy there own honda civic and pay for it and insurance and gas and repairs. no. i'm not bitter.

<< I say the aftermarket for the Mustang, constant updating of the platform/styling, along with a much more hyped ad campaigns (0 for the F-bodies) is part of the reason. Anyway, here's a nice article on the SVT Cobra:

Why do you think the Mustang is as good as it is? Back when it came out, the current Mustang generation had 240HP, and a live rear axle. The Camaro has 275HP, and was deemed the superior pony car by far. Times change, the mustang has more power, and a somewhat useless IRS. The mustang was a sales leader before, now that its better, the Camaro is really ready to be retired.

Because the mass public really doesnt care that the z28 will do 0-60 in 5.2 vs the mustang doing it in 5.8. They care about looks, saftey, interior design, quality (build and interior) and reliability. Unfortunately for GM, the Cam and Fire are neither of these. Almost everyone i have known that owned a camaro has absolutely hated them by the end of ownership. Personally i've owned 4 mustangs (2 v6's, 1 GT, and 1 Boss 96' supercharged). I always found the mustang to be a better built car with signifigantly better appearance. Those things, along with price, makes the mustang a no brainer for Joe Blow.

Ahem, Speed Kills.... Drive a mustang :)

i blame GM's marketing approach on the cars, you SEE ford advertising, YOU HEAR it on the radio, you WATCH it on tv...

how many camaro/firebird ad's do i see?

zip....

still, one HELLUVA ride :)

good to see that ford got their butts in gear with the GT's the 93-97? 4.6 V8 had a hard time fending off the 3.8 V6's in the birds and maro's as i recall!

You should read the article in Motor Trend. The Mustang Cobra lost to the Camaro SS in 0-60 and 1/4. And costs more.. They also had a side article explaining HP vs BS. When it came time to testing the Mustang they found it doesn't put out as much power as Ford claims. Of course we are talking about Ford- what do you expect. Oh and BTW, there are more parts made for Camaros then Mustangs. There are more parts made for 350's than any Ford Motor or other engine. People buy cars based on looks... they don't seem to buy sports cars for there performance, seems kinda strange to me, sports cars are suppost to be fast.

Oh well, I think somewhere I read GM plans to bring back the Camaro after a few years.... interesting

hahaha

you've got to be kidding me!
there are sooo many parts for 302 mustangs that i can never decide which will be the best!
and its already happening a lot to the newer 4.6s!!

you need to redo your research buddy... that 350 might have an aftermarket... but no where near the size of mustangs

Camaro SS is best of the 3.

I generally am Anti-Ford but for reasons other than the reason i hate the mustang: half the time the people who drive them are complete asswipes. i'm sorry if you aren't an asswipe and drive a mustang, you have other losers to thank for you looking bad to some ppl.. :)

booo to death of camaro and firebird...

When it comes to Engine Support the SB GM is and has been king for decade's. Go to Edelbrocks site and look at their EFI conversions, they have FINALLY released one for the SB Fords.

As a full car the 5.0 Mustang is the king of that realm.

As far as the new stuff 4.6 vs the LS series blocks the 4.6 is pulling far ahead but 5.0 is still more powerful and 1/3rd the cost. The LS1 doesn't have many parts available for it at all outside the GM stockpile. It does have 2 Killer stroker kits for it tho the 427 is massive power.

Because Ford as a company makes better decisions than GM. The net result is better quality, more desirable products and better sales. The Mustang still sells enough to make a profit for Ford.

GM is scared about losing money these days. They used to have money to throw around, because a long, long time ago, they used to do things right.

This is just my opinion. I not looking to inflame.

How totally true.. thesedays GM can't do anything right it seems.. poor quality and ugly-ass cars, they aren't going anywhere fast.. yet people still buy them alot. they have a loyal brand following (i don't know why, but it's true) while i agree GM used to be fine, anymore I think they are degrading quickly...

The Mustang stays on for the same reason that a local steak house serving the finest aged beef would die while McDonalds lives on...people really really like cheap crap!

The Camaro/Firebird is a crappier built, cheesier feeling car than the Mustang. The Mustang also doesn't have as many quality glitches.

All I know is that when you have a society where AOL is the largest ISP, you have to think that just about anything popular has to be crap.

A magazine down here (Australia), compared the Mustang with the Commodore (GM) and the Ford Falcon (Ford doh! :)) The build quality on the mustang was that dodgy it wasn't funny. Panels didn't line up properly, interior creaked/groaned and fell to bits....The Aussie cars where built that much better....slightly irrelevant I know, but I find it hard you can say that the Mustang is quite good quality wise/overall finish.....

Poor quality what? If we are still on the subject of Camaro then we are either talking LT1 or LS1, I've owned both, they are great. Much better then Dodge's POS 360.

You TRY to put your vehicle through a 1/10th of what my truck has done and see if it even survives... it won't... but if you ever could then come back and talk :)
