The debate over aluminum has been going on for decades.
Nevertheless, you don't want to cook acidic things in aluminum--any good cookbook will tell you that.

That's why it is hard anodized. I think the Calphalon website addresses this.

Acidic foods on anodized calphalon is pretty good at removing the anodization itself. I've had to have three pans replaced because of this.

Maybe I just got bad pans, though.

Zippin44 - Exactly! I mentioned it earlier

My suggestion would be to buy the H/A set for daily/general use and add a couple of their commercial Nonstick Omelette pans to your collection.

I prefer the H/A for most of my cooking but use the Calphalon Comm Nonstick for Eggs and more delicate stuff.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Calphalon handles. Don't forget the hot pad, I got a nice little surprise one day. :p

Yep, never put your $60-$80/pan cookware in the dishwasher. You don't really need too anyway, they clean so easy.

You can if it's all-clad. ;)

Only the stainless series is dishwasher safe. I just checked the All-Clad website and it states that you warranty will be voided if:
"your All-Clad LTD, MC2, Cop-R-Chef, Copper-Core, or Non-stick pieces are used in the dishwasher. " - from the All-Clad website.

No this is also mentioned on the Calphalon website, they advise you to avoid cooking strongly acidic foods in the pans. There were nice to replace them though, I guess they have a reputation to maintain.

Great deal on the 5 piece Set. Just put one on hold to pick up tomorrow.

Just a little clarification on nonstick Vs. the HA Calphalon,

Nonstick is great for making crepes, pancakes, grilling chese sandwiches, making omelets, frying eggs, or anything where you want to use less fat and is a stand alone dish.

However, when you want to brown meat or veggies and get good carmelization in the pan so you can deglaze and make sauces or stocks, you don't want nonstick cookwear. Stainless steel pans such as All-Clad are superior but far more expensive. The dark color of the Calphalon pans are a slight drawback when browning but you learn to deal with that drawback.(sp edit)

Hope you don't feel I was rambling, just sharing a few things I've learned watching the food network.

:D

Um... looking at the pic, there are 2 pans, a pot, and 2 lids.

Is that their idea of "5 pieces" or is the pic misleading??

Where is an online ad I can print out? The LNT.com site doesn't list the 5-piece set anymore. Thanks!

"Pieces" in tersm of pots and pans sets always include the lids. Lame but true. LnT by me didnn't have the 5-piece set (nor even a place on the shelves for it). I ordred the 10 piece set online for $150 though. Nice deal. $300 off the original price. These come with a lifetime guarantee too.

I pricematched at Bed, Bath and Beyond. They were exceptionally friend and accommodating there.

Linens n' Things was nice too, but they didn't even have the 5-piece set in the computer.

can you pm Bedbathandbeyond.com? Ive never pricematched anything before but would like to know how. Can you do it before you buy something? Do you just call up, ask for sales, and then ask to pm?

Thanks,
Kard

For those of you are have some time and an AMEX BVG - you should be able ot clear about $50 by ebaying a set you buy from amazon.com. The 12qt stockpot sells consistently at $50+

Kard-
Bed Bath & Beyond is very easy to pricematch with- just bring in a print-out of the ad, and the item to the register. Very simple- and don't forget a 20% off coupon. BBB will pricematch and apply a coupon. Linens and Things will pricematch, but their policy is not to accept a coupon if they pricematch

Don't forget to use the ubiquitous coupons the mail out - or ask the cashier if they have an extra behind the counter
I actually got mine down to $49.99 - 20% :)

Holy smokes!! I got mine for $40 too at BBB!!! Thanks for the incredible deal, grillmasterP!!
