Never bothers me what others wear but I have seen it in our very own department where the individual was approached by someone else in the department about wearing the same 2 or 3 outfits all the time. I've noticed it too but I just mind my own business. I don't know about him but I would be pretty embarrassed even if it was ahole-ish of them.

Would you bring it up to the person or just MYOB?

I'm not sure I'd even notice. I don't much care what people wear, unless it's a woman showing tits. I like tits.

MYOB.

Work is not where you make fashion statements.. unless you work in the fashion industry, of course.

MYOB. unless the same outfits aren't laundered and smell then what's the difference?

Of course the guy might just have several sets of the same three outfits... like the guy from David Cronenber's remake of the fly.

if you think it's holding him back socially/career-wise and want to approach it as helping a buddy out . . . but even still, MYOB

I wear the same outfit ever day: tan or black slacks & black or blue collared shirt. Not female, not a teenager, thus, don't care. My closet looks like Monks, a row full of the same thing :D

I worked a stint in China for a contracting job. The workforce at the company was generally poor and only had one work outfit that they wore the whole week. Everyone wearing the same shirt and pants all week long...6 days a week.

I can really only see it if the person is socially clueless. I work with a lot of engineers who are like that, especially the unmarried ones who are hardcore geeks & don't have any sort of sense of fashion normalcy - it's really a MYOB thing, but there is a certain minimum you should probably stick with so as not to look like the aforementioned serial killer :D

An acquaintance in Europe (Switzerland) got called out for wearing a different outfit everyday to an office job.
Which makes more sense to me. You're just rewashing already clean clothes and taking up more resources (water, electricity, and washer/dryer time) for the sake of vanity.

It's just a matter of culture.

Also, callout thread reported :p

I've worn mostly the same t-shirts starting in high school, all the way through undergrad, now two years into a PhD. I had a physics TA call me out on it my sophomore year, but I think most people know I'm mentally ill and keep to themselves.

Most men's professional attire is fundamentally identical; suit (navy, gray or brown), shirt (blue or white), matching belt/shoes (black or brown) and a tie. There's not a huge amount of variety outside of different ties, and if you don't wear ties, you can have a wardrobe full of clothes and still appear to have only a few different outfits.

Regardless, you should MYOB.

Wearing different things doesn't mean washing more often. I don't know anyone who washes their office clothes after one use.

I call my coworker out on his clothes all the time. Mostly, because he wears shirts with holes in them. It is more kind hearted ribbing than anything sinister.

Also, I once witnessed a girl wearing yoga pants (she was in a different department, thank god, because I'd have gone off on her). I never saw her again after that day. I hope she was fired promptly on the spot.

I also call people out who wear tennis shoes in slacks. That is tacky as fuck AND against company policy. And, it isn't even like they are wearing good fucking sneakers either. If they had a pair of Concords on or something, I'd let it slide. Those nasty New Balance you bought in 1998? I will fucking cut you.

I had a professor who literally wore the same shirt, pants and sweater (weather dependent). I never knew if he had a closet full of them or washed daily. This was over the course of many years and many classes too.

I would MYOB.

I wear the same outfit to work everyday. Tan shirt w/company name, jeans, brown belt, and my boots. Everyday. 49 weeks a year or 2800 hours.
No one has ever pulled me aside and talked to me about it.
