I recently acquired a board that wouldn't POST. I tried it with known good RAM and CPUs (two diff't ones), known good video card and onboard video, and known good PSU, out of the case on a wood surface to eliminate groundouts. Unless I've missed something, I think the BIOS chip needs to be reprogrammed. It's a PLCC chip (square one in a socket), so if you know what a hot-swap BIOS flash is and are willing to help out, please let me know! I'm in the Chicago area and could visit later today or tomorrow.

UPDATE: I got the BIOS chip flashed successfully, but the board still doesn't POST, so I'm returning it.
 
This isn't much use if you don't post make and model of board, you need to have the same bios to do a hot swap
 
My understanding of a hot swap is that it only needs to be the same type of BIOS chip. You boot up the good board (with good chip in) into DOS, start the flash utility program (but don't flash!), swap out chips and flash the other chip. Then replace the good chip back into its board.
 
That's my fallback plan - little short of cash right now though.

Well Chiboy and I tried it in his board. After tinkering for an hour or so we thought we got it to flash. Unfortunately it still does not POST. Standby light directly on the board lights up as soon as power is plugged in, and CPU fan spins up when power button is pushed, but no boot process happens. This could be for a number of reasons, such as that we ended up using AMIFLASH for an Award BIOS; or the chip itself could be damaged or dead; or the board has another problem. I even connected a hard drive but there was no activity other than it spinning up.

If there's anyone else out there who'd like to try and help, I'd love to hear from you. Also if you know of a place that sells PLCC 32-pin chips, and a place that'll flash them, that would be sweet. I'm keeping badflash.com in mind but I don't get paid until next week, and I'd rather try and get it done quickly here rather than send it off and wait, just to find that the board still won't POST for some other reason.
 
Well I got the chip flashed today in another system but the board still doesn't POST. I'm gonna send it back and hope he has another. Thanks again, all!
