Calling in sick to work

I just called in sick to work for the first time in over 5 months and the store manager almost refused to replace me. I have gone to work sick for the past week. My ear is infected big time now.

What is the deal with stupid a$$ managers? I have worked at that store for over 6 years. I average calling in sick one time every 8 or 9 months. And when I do call in, I am in pretty bad shape.

It just ticks me off b/c they KNOW I have been sick....

I sure wish I could get a new job...and work the hours I do...

You can't let the manager get to you. I was once in a similar situation. Just do what you need to do to get better then go back to work. They surely won't fire you after 6 years of employment, your manager may be a jerk, but he also knows the value of a dependable employee.

i worked at target several years back, same situation but i had only worked there for a year. Not good to piss off employees, i think i quietly destroyed several times my pay that day hehe its oops i dropped it.. oops i dropped it again hah

seriously though, most employers are not gonna balk at someone taking a sick day every few months, esp if you come into work while somewhat sick...they know you're not taking off at the slightest sniffle. that's pretty dick of your boss though....

Well, this manager tried to make me feel bad because I called in 3 hours before my shift. I work 11-7, go to school 8-12, then sleep. When was I supposed to call in? I called as soon as I woke up with an horrible earache. I almost threatened him with the union. Technically, I can call in 2 hours before I am scheduled. I also can technically call in once a month and not have one thing said. You gotta love the Union.

This was a co-manager. I will have a talk with the union and the store manager. The next time I call in I will not be treated like I was.

As long as we have Sick leave we can call in 1 minute before the shift. Some people don't call at all. And if you run out of sick leave you can use vacation in liue(sp) of sick leave. But vacation days need to be scheduled 24 hours in advance.

Sounds like your boss needs a swift kick.
