Alright...I am about to put in a 2 week notice at my work to go to another department. I have 5 sick days to burn. The department pays out at 50% for those sickdays that arent used. Would you call in sick or take the extra money and work the last 2 weeks in full? Anything wrong with calling in sick a couple times once you put in a 2 week?

Some companies have the policy that you must work your entire two weeks or you will be fired. Probably best to use the sick days then turn in two weeks if possible.

Take 1- maybe 2 sick days during your last week. Cash out the rest if you need the reference

If you don't give a fvck about the reference use em up!

No policy exists at my work...I've poured through the policies regarding my rights when I turn in my letter. The worst they could do, per policy, is ask me to provide evidence of illness. They can't fire me unless they would really like a lengthy legal battle.

Yea though it looks kinda lame and obvious calling in sick during your last two weeks. You also said that you're going to a different dept in the same company?
It would probably reflect best on you in the company to just ride out the last two weeks.

So, take a couple sick days before you put the notice in and cash in the rest. Or if you're crunched for time, go into your bosses office and tender your resignation while acting sick and say you're going home.

My job doesn't have sick days/vacation time.. it's all combined and called "Paid Time Off" which I plan to utilize fully whenever I put in my 2 weeks.

Different department as in different police department. :)
Oh in that case, who gives a rip? Go take a few liquid lunches and then take the rest of the day off sick.

I wouldn't call in sick, especially since I would be moving to another department within the same company(that is what I understood from your post). Then again, I have something called work ethic!!!

Ask your union rep as opposed to AToT?

Just cover your ass and stay safe.

And always never burn your bridges unless you're prepared to battle.

=)

/off the soapbox. :)

What would you be doing on these days off? Searching for a job, or otherwise being productive, then sure, consider taking them off.

If they are going to be days that you just fvck off, then no, I'd get the extra 2.5 days pay.

We are one of the few departments WITHOUT a union. (In fact, I can't think of a single department in my area that doesnt have a union...)

It wouldn't hurt to ask your supervisor and/or HR if you can take the sick leave. Usually if a company has a buy back policy, they wouldn't have too much problem with it.

Yeah, but it could backfire. "No Fallenhero, you cant. Now we will be watching for you to call in sick...better have some doctors notes ready."

I wouldn't try to apply work ethics to that one... That would be too easy. I was just looking at it logically.

You apparently have no work ethic or you would never have asked this question.

That sucks. Here in Cali they have to pay you 100% of your available sick pay when you leave.
