This is a medium intensive test so steer clear if you don't want to go through a big download and plex streaming.

Right now I have a plex server that I am contemplating overclocking. It currently runs on 2x 1045t cores @ stock. I am trying to figure out if it is possible to overclock this guy or give it one more core to perfectly transcode 4k video. I'm hoping that some people here would share the same interest in figuring what it take to transcode this quality (~50mb/s).

Basically, I'm looking for some people with a plex server to download this 1GB 4k video:
http://techreport.com/news/25554/new-star-citizen-video-available-in-4k-resolution

and post their processor as well as if they can transcode the video without flaw.

My current setup stutters just enough so that I think it can be be almost done.

Wait, why would you transcode 4K video? Trying to re-encode stuff you can only get in 4K to 720p/1080p on the fly?

Well. That video is 4k but realistically the bitrate is on par with bluray. I want to see if ripping blurays is viable... whether it's practical is another discussion.

So you are only using 2 cores of a 6 core CPU? I'm guessing this is a VM or something? If plex is multithreaded, why not give it another core or two and see if that helps?

I have I think up to 15 vcores at this point. I don't want any VM taking more than two cores since that would increase the wait time for cores across the board. I haven't done any real world performance tests but it might be worth a quick test to see. I don't think it's a great idea in the long run.

Any free conversion software that has a 4k preset? I tried Handbrake, but it crashes during the encode.

Doubt I can help you, my plex server is 2 x vcpu old Xeon 5130 @ 2ghz....TBH with you, most VM are memory and I/O limited, not processing power....What hypervisor are you using?....
Out of the 3 hosts I have at work, the cpus would be lucky to go over 20-30%..however they will use memory ...
