During many live performances, Zep was famous for covering songs in the middle of their own songs. During the How the West Was Won performance of "How Many More Times", they sang a song with these lyrics:

"My mama did told me, my papa did too, the way that you move is no good for you...you gotta move......"

This song was also covered during Whole Lotta Love on the Song Remains the Same soundtrack.

Who sang the original? I can't find the blues guy that this came from and it's driving me nuts :|

Willie Dixon? :p

No no no....Willie Dixon is who they got the Whole Lotta Love song from. This is a blues melody they break into during the solo part of the song. Here's some of the lyrics:

Well mama she told me, papa did too
Way that ya move, it's no good for you, ya gotta
A-boogie mama
A-boogie mama
Boogie mama
Boogie all night long

Yes yes, That's Alright was in there, but Boogie Mama is different. I think I traced it down to a song from Lightin' Hopkins, but I can't find a sample to be sure. I think it's a version of his song "Gotta Move". Still researching though.

It's a variant of John Lee Hooker's "Boogie Chillun".

If you like the medley on How the West Was Won (or just the album in general) there are endless live Zeppelin delights remaining for you to discover--in fact, so much that it would take you weeks to listen to it all.

Tons of tapes survive to document the amazing Zeppelin in flight live and in the studio. The tapes are of varying sound quality, but the performances often have to be heard to be believed. The medleys at the end of shows early in their career were where they got a chance to play the songs that inspired them, and it's obvious they loved doing it.

PM me for more details.
