Hey guys - I've been lurking around for the past year, and have finally decided to post!
Situation is this:
I accepted an offer of employment in Portsmouth, Rhode Island starting September 2007. I'm going to need to rent a 1br apartment relatively close to my job (I have a car, and would prefer to not commute for > 20 minutes either way).
Budget is anything <$1200/mth.
Thing is, I've only been to Rhode Island once my whole life (for the interview), and have no friends/relatives there that are familiar with the area. I was wondering if anyone here could point me in the right direction as far as good rental areas, any specific apartments, any neighborhoods to watch out for?
Also, I know that Portsmouth, Middletown, Newport would be ideal places but I'm having a hard time finding apartments there.
There's a ton, however, in places like Wakefield, Cranston, and Warwick. Would traffic during rush hour be impossible for me to commute across the Jamestown bridges?
Finally, would it be unfeasible to live up N/NE in Bristol and/or Fall River? Rent.com doesn't really cover those areas well, but the map shows that I can just take 114 or 138 over the river to get to Portsmouth. Would that be closer than, say, Warwick?
Thanks a lot guys!
