Sith, are you taking into consideration that you'll need to pay for insurance and repairs? It sounds to me like you're saving your pennies up to buy an expesive, used sports car. And I hope you won't be broke after buying one, because you'll need a lot more money for it down the road. If ~35 grand is all you have, I'd say get the STi and call it a day. If you've got a steady income that can guarantee that you can drop a couple/few thousand on repairs at any moment, go for it :)

wje - when I say "if I had the money" I don't mean "I'll spend the first 80 grand I come by on X car...". What I mean by "if I had the money" is if I could cover my means. I'd have to be well established before I could plunk that kind of money down on a car. I'm not the kind of guy who likes to make payments or be in debt :)

True. The TCO - Total Cost of Ownership needs to be taken into consideration. I used to have a supervisor who owned a Porsche 944. It seems like that car was always in the shop. Frequently, his repair bills were $1,200 and up. :(

I'm not buying it, my dad is for himself and to give to my lil brother later.
He's not dumb, he doesn't plan to buy a brand new Porsche or Viper.

I hear you. Which probably means that you'd tend to your other obligations first. Being in debt sucks.

Would your father have a few extra bucks for me? I promise that I would invest it wisely and make lots of money off of it. ;)

If you think the Porsche sits more than two, you're only kidding yourself. Unless the people around you are 2 foot tall and wieght 40lb, they will not fit in the back of the 911. The one day I had to sit in the back of my friends Porsche, I sat across the two back seats (no way in hell were my legs gonna fit behind his seat) very uncomfortably.

Yes, they are very, very small. I've been in other cars where you have to do just that.. sit across 2 seats. not especially fun...

Someone that age should not be driving a Viper or 911T. He should get a car under a couple of grand, that's slow and safe, as his first car. Unless of course you rather see him and the $50,000 car wrapped around a tree in a couple of months. I'm sure many would agree with me on this.

Rant time. Wish my dady had that much money when I got my first car. I'm glad I didn't have one of those as my first car though, but I'll take one now! :) I know I'd get the urge to race some punk with a honda at the high school and end up in an accident.

True.

But both my other lil brother and I got to choose our cars so the youngest brother gets to do the same.

LOL! I agree. If dad gets the Porsche I doubt my lil brother will get to drive it everyday until college, it will be more like a date/weekend car. If we get the Subaru I'm sure he'll get to drive it to school.

I got my Ram when I was 16 and my other brother got his Jeep Liberty at the same age.

A Porsche 911 Turbo is the ultimate status symbol. When you drive one of those, it shows that you have TRUELY arrived. Vipers are also nice go-fast sports cars, but they don't have the refinements or the prestige factor of the 911.
