Calling all writers of ATOT!

In my three plus years on the Anandtech forums, I've met a few members here who were dedicated writers and a few more who showed interest in writing.

I am creating this thread to gather feedback and see who might be interested in participating in a collaborative writing experiment. We might produce something of brilliance, or it might be one big sloppy amalgam of prose and dialogue. Regardless of the outcome, this idea has been in the making for years. I would not be creating this thread if I did not believe that there are many members of this forum who are extremely capable of writing.

I now request all members reading this thread to consider whether or not they would be interested in this effort. A Yahoo! listserv/group will be created for the bulk of any contributions. This does not necessarily have to be one story or one singular idea, all contributions will be welcome, those from new members or established members.

I, or any other interested contributor, would write the first chapter. Beyond that, it would be a team project. Obviously I would not expect you to write a full chapter, however, if you are so inspired, you may write to your heart's content. The listserv will be open to anything you wish to submit, no matter if it is a contribution to the project or not. Comments, suggestions and praise will be given to anyone who participates. No guidelines or restrictions will be made on what you decide to write about. If you ever began writing something, or felt like writing something, then I urge you to realize that ambition. If you cannot continue, someone else might. The geniuses of today have found themselves securely positioned in industry and technology, but imagination, creativity and writing in general still survives. There is a harmony.

I must make it clear that I am not looking to steal your intellectual creations, or publish anything you decide to submit. This is born purely from curiousity and ambition. I work a stressful full-time job like most of you, but I have found that I am only truly happy when I am writing.

To any moderators viewing this thread, I am humbly grateful for the consideration of a "sticky", at least for a week.

Please respond in this thread or message me if you are at all interested.

Cliff Notes:
  - I am looking for anyone interested in writing.
  - A Listserv will be created for all who wish to participate.
  - There are no restrictions, limitations, or expectations.

Thank you,
- Travis (mobobuff)

I'm there!

You'll have to explain (slowly) what a listserv is, however

It's a group, basically, that unites you with other members of the group. You can start new topics or reply to other topics, just like a forum. E-mail plays an important part of keeping you up-to-date. It would be a Yahoo! group, but some people recognize it better as a "listserv". *shrug*

I'm more than willing to use another form of communication, if people are interested, but Yahoo Groups was my first idea.

Thank you :) The group is not yet created, as it depends on just how many members are interested. However few the number of members turns out to be, I am determined to write what I can and comment or continue on whatever is submitted. It's a joined effort, and it can only be as strong as the number of those involved.

Can people join in after its started or do they have to be in from the beginning?

I should also mention that I'm not looking for an explosion of activity or a superior compilation of your greatest writing. I would be happiest if this group was around for a few years, and any or all writing could be submitted to the group. I'm a writer at heart, and a reader by nature. If anyone shares that passion, I only ask that they show interest or comment in this thread. It's all about collaboration, or at the least, a mutual interest.

Again, thank you.

great idea. I've worked with a few exquisite corpse groups before. some good, some disastrous (FWI: stay away from film-based ones), but hey, it's always a learning experience.

I know that I need a little focus and group attention to keep me busy...so this could help!

I'm down.

Hell, I'm sure we could think of something to write around the lives of ATOT members. Even if it's only interesting to read for us, it's certainly not a lost cause.

Thank you! This is the kind of input I was hoping for. Anyone interested in sharing their writing or providing input is more than welcome. In anything that I write I will also desire criticism, even derision. I do not care. As long as we are writing.

I'm in, but I probably don't have time to contribute much. Time is quickly becoming my most precious commodity.

If you can write it and compile the music, then all my base are belong to you.

Excitement is more than I could wish for. I will be making a list of members who show interest in this project, and I can only hope that there are more out there who may be curious.

Devotion of time does not matter. Curiousity does.

This could be a total failure, but I think it's worth the shot. :)

honestly, I'm not that familiar with the world of IT, LAN, CE, etc (the things that most people on here have in common :)).

I could give it a shot, to be sure, but atm, I would consider contributing a piece related around a common theme. Perhaps a collection of short stories with reccurring characters, locations, etc? each person then would, if willing, contribute short prose, verse, script, etc pieces related to the overall, unified theme/characters/setting....

this is my first thought, anyway. but like I said, I'd be down for anything, and more than willing to contribute input/criticism. (and yes, I prefer criticism over praise. I learn from critisism more---not that I never appreciated praise, but it never really helped me as much)

total failure is at the very least better than 0 progress. ...and that's still a big difference ;)

That's not a problem at all, short stories are the easiest to start and can always be permeable to other characters. You could write a little about a character, and someone else could work that character into whatever they decide to write about.

The most interesting part is what we come up with.

I'm in... although I'm more interested in reading what all you would-be literary geniuses write than writing myself. :D

Honestly, I think I could enjoy being a writer. I just never can think of anything to write about. It's like I have no imagination...
