The PS3 is certainly a better buy if you are wanting all of those features from a Hardware standpoint.

There's also supposed to be a newer version of the 360 coming out with all sorts of goodies so you should wait on that one too.

No they aren't. IBM has started producing 65nm cell chips but they are only being used in their cell servers at the moment. Sony hasn't announced any plans to use them yet, either.

There is, in fact, absolutely nothing wrong with my logic. If there is, by chance, why don't you point something out that is logically wrong.

You see, this is a topic about purchasing a PS3 now and whether or not it's a good idea. You came on the defensive when people started trashing the PS3's less-than-stellar amount of quality games by saying that it took awhile for the XBOX 360 to have a decent amount of good games as well. Now, see... the problem is you're not necessarily wrong with that statement. Although the idea of a "quality game" is partly relative, the real issue comes when we go back to the topic "purchasing a PS3 now and whether or not it's a good idea." "Now" doesn't warrant looking at the XBOX 360's prior states.

I believe what some people are trying to say is that the PS3 doesn't offer too much in games that you can't get elsewhere (note that this does not mean exclusivity of games) and that it may be a better idea to wait. There's no where in my post that I mentioned anything about buying an XBOX 360 instead or anything like that.

You obviously didn't read between the two lines you quoted. I also didn't insult your character, merely your flawed logic in this argument.

You buy a system hoping to play games right now, sure. And there ARE games worth playing right now. However, you don't spend $400-$600 on a console looking for a quick fix, you buy it hoping to have it for quite a few years. Thus, my saying that its more worth it than its main competitor because it has potential for more, better games and that said competitor had very few good games for a long time is certainly valid. I'm justifying the investment now because it will be worth it in the long run.

You will definitely want to upgrade the hard drive sooner rather than later if you go with the 20 GB version. The drive is slower, and the PSN games take a hit because of it.

PSN games are the hidden gems of the system. We've gotten quite a bit of play out of Gripshift (PSP port), flOw, GT:HD (free), and I plan on constantly be refreshing the Jp store tonight to get the Hot Shots demo. There's also the Tekken: DR (arcade port) that's really popular. Later this month there's going to be Calling All Cars and Super Rub-a-Dub as well as a few retro games (MKII).

We actually haven't bought any disc games yet because of the PSN offerings and PS2 backlog (GoWII is supposed to look beautiful through HDMI). But that doesn't mean there aren't good games. Resistance is supposed to be one of the best online experiences out there right now, and the SP is supposed to be really great after the first couple of levels. Motorstorm is supposed to be good too, but I personally don't see the appeal.

As for upcoming games, Lair and Heavenly Sword are going to hit during the summer.

If you like things for the novelty factor, Folding@Home is going to be added next week. There will also be roaming Remote Play, so you can use your PS3 as a media server even out of the house. Other functionalities will be added next week as well, so don't give the haters too much credit yet.

There's already bowling and billiards confirmed which points to it becoming on-par with the Wii Sports/Play titles at the very least. And it's free.

There's a closed beta (15,000 users) coming next month. It will most be developers, but normal users could get lucky.

I am a PS3 owner since early January. I was fortunate enough to get a 60GB version for $450 using wishceritificate, so I had no problem paying $50 extra over Xbox 360 for one.

Honestly, at the time of the purchase, PS3's future looked bleak. The library sucked (and it still does now, but somewhat ameliorated by recent releases) and it seemed like Sony was taking its time. I missed rumble (and I still do). It was plagued with PS2 compatibility issues (horrible jaggies) as well.

Firmware fixed some problems, and GDC last week made PS3's future more promising. Home looks like a great community medium and I don't know why people are inclined to bash it as "The Sims." It's just a way for PS3 players to launch games together, socialize, and share things.

Rumble feature is coming back, as mentioned by God of War 3 devs who confirmed that the feature will be in GoW3.

There are some promising titles coming this year, including MGS, Lair, and Heavenly Sword. NY Post states that analysts predict retailers will not be carrying HD-DVDs as soon as next year due to better sales for Blu-ray. Home is coming this October. So there are some good reasons to own the console. If you want to buy a PS3 now, go buy it. If you can wait, you can also wait.

Xbox 360 is a great machine, and competition is always good.

PS3 is a good value if:

- you want to watch blu-ray movies. Netflix rents them for no extra charge beyond the normal membership.
- you want to play the few (but growing) number of PS3 exclusives
- you don't have an xbox360 so you have the cross-platform games like Marvel Ultimate Alliance and (this month) Oblivion to play.

If you already have a 360 you need to really want blu-ray or the exclusives, since cross-platform games have been equal at best on the PS3 and the 360 has often had online or other extras not on the PS3.

The 360 is also currently much stronger for online play with Live and a lot more game choices. This may change over time, but right now the 360 is as far ahead as blu-ray is over HD-DVD.

I read them quite well and there's absolutely no logical flaw. Just because you don't agree with something does not make it a flaw in logic. What you should say is, "you present a valid argument, but I think you should look at this as well as it helps to offset that issue." THAT is a proper response as my logic isn't incorrect, but you think my argument has some blatant omissions.

I'm sure everyone in here realizes that games get better over time. It's practically inevitable, unless it's like the 3DO or something 😛. I'm not saying that the PS3 will never get any better games, what I'm trying to say is that for buying it now... the PS3 may not have the games to really push the system onto him at this point. The reason why future games (note we're talking months off) don't necessarily count for this argument is the guy could just buy the console then.

For his decision to purchase it now, it really comes down to the immediate future (as in the coming month) and the current set of games.

Personally, I'd need to get to play this to see if it's really worthwhile. I'm just a bit too skeptical on the wow factor when normal menus work just fine... normal controls work just fine. It may indeed be better, but I'll reserve that judgment for when I get the chance to try it out.

I just used my tax refund to purchase a PS3, and I'm happy with it. I don't actually own a PS3 game yet, but I will when they come out. But I figured, I've got the money, I've got the hdtv, dang it I better start enjoying the movie quality, both the blu-ray which appears like it'll be the winner over hd-dvd, and even upscaling regular dvds is far better than what my htpc could do (I've always been disappointed in computer dvd quality, I don't know why they can't get it right...).

I think for the basic functions, the XMB will definitely be more efficient, but Home certainly expands upon those functions. For instance, rather than loading up a single game and waiting on matching, in the Home lobby you can see players looking for matches in multiple games and make your choice from there. And I can see the apartments as adding much more to basic voice chatting and media sharing.

You're comparing launch games to games for a system that's been out a year. This is a marathon, not a sprint - anyone with half a brain knows that the PS3 is more powerful, and games will eventually look better. And you're completely wrong about the PS3 online system being a "joke".

not really. the ps3's gpu is slower than a 7900gtx and of the same technology. the R500 in the xbox360 is ATI's most advanced technology far surpassing the x1900xtx.its probalby a little slower than the x1900xtx but its more advanced and has features thaat G7x does not like AA+HDR.

add that to the fact that sony want 1080p and MS only want min 720p on games means that eye candy wise the xbox 360 will ALWAYS be better.

I own all three systems, honest opinion if i had to get a system today and only one, it would kind of depend on who i planned to play it with.

If i planned on playing with the wife and kids, and others that came by i would get the wii. it will be a great "party" system.

If i was going to play solo games or with my friends, i would get the PS3. I fell that it will have a longer self life then the 360 from today till the next gen. Right now the 360 has more/better games, and a more developed online service, but as time goes on the PS3 will have the same library of good and diverse games and online services.

I might be spending 400 to 600 today, but i am thinking about today and two/three years from now.

Regardless, his other statements are legitimate...the Xbox 360 GPU has more features.

On the other hand, the PS3 has a more powerful processor if it is coded for properly (which will take a LONG time to truly do and will likely never show its face in cross platform games).

It is a toss up between which machine is more powerful. They both will putout gorgeous games. They both will put out games with insane physics. It is ignorant to just generally state that one of the machines is more powerful than the other. It just isn't true, they both have pluses and minuses from a performance standpoint...it really depends on specific tasks a programmer wants to do.

why is it more powerful?

Because sony says it is! Technically speaking, the xbox has a better gpu than the one in the PS3, and although the ps3's cpu can theoretically do things the 360 isnt capable of, the 360's cpu is so much easier to program than unless the dev has the experience, and puts in the work to maximize all of the asymmetric cores in the ps3, there shouldnt be much difference between the two. In time, I expect the ps3 to have much better physics than the 360, but itll be a while.

I see what you're saying, but I just don't see it working like that. You'll be jumping around 'Home Worlds' just to see what people are playing? I mean, in a crowd of 64, how diverse will the crowds be once there's a few key games people are playing? Plus, they don't even have the ability to launch games from HOME yet. They are hoping to implement that. So, even at that point, you are just setting up which lobby you'll be in since there aren't friend invites yet.

It'll take time. I'm just not sure it will be all that significant this go around. Gotta start somewhere, though. I'll check it out, but I doubt I'll use after seeing it once or twice.

There are as many MS haters here as MS fanboys. There are also many, MANY Apple haters. Apple could sell gold bricks for a buck apiece and people would still find a way to criticize them.

IIRC, all of the polls on AT before November 06 showed the Wii on top by a decent margin, followed by PS3 and then MS. Not exactly indicative of MS fanboyism. The same polls today would probably show the Wii and MS pretty close in 1st and 2nd with the PS3 bringing up the rear. The only thing that has changed is the PS3 (and Wii) came out.
