Where can you find pleasure, search the world for treasure,
Learn science, technology?
Where can you begin to make your dreams all come true
On the land or on the sea?
Where can you learn to fly, play in sports or skindive,
Study oceanography?
Sign up for the big band or sit in the grand stand
When your team and others meet.

In the Navy, yes, you can sail the seven seas.
In the Navy, yes, you can put your mind at ease.
In the Navy, come on now people, make a stand.
In the Navy, can't you see we need a hand.
In the Navy, come on, protect the motherland.
In the Navy, come on and join your fellow, man.
In the Navy, come on, people, and make a stand.
In the Navy, in the Navy.

They want you! They want you! They want you as a new recruit!

If you like adventure don't you wait to enter
The recruiting office fast.
Don't you hesitate, there is no need to wait;
They're signing up new seamen fast.
Maybe you are too young to join up today
But don't you worry 'bout the thing
For I'm sure there will be always the good Navy
Protecting the land and sea.

In the Navy...

They want you! They want you! They want you as a new recruit!
They want you! They want you! They want you as a new recruit!
..But..but..but I'm afraid of water!
..hey..hey..look, men...
I get seasick even watching it on the TV!
They want You! - Oh my goodness!
They want you! - What am I gonna do in a submarine?
They want you! They want you!
In the Navy.
:D

US Navy, 10 years, 1989 - 1999... Eletronic Tech, Misawa, Japan, Puerto Rico, Diego Garcia, Bolling AFB...

So, the question is, how do you spend 10 years in the Navy and not be stationed on a ship?

I was in Reagan's US Air Force. Peace through superior firepower. Aaahhrooo!

Did stuff dealing with nuclear cruise missiles during the later part of the Cold War. Mid 80s to early 90s.

Retrained into Computer Programming, then got out and became a civilian.

I was in Reagan's, Bush's, Clinton's, Bush's Marine Corps. June 15 1981 - June 30 2001

3 1/2 years on Kaneohe. Last 1/2 year on legal hold and actually another 1/2 of one of those years on Misawa (that was Misawa in '82 - the only thing there was the stuff on the hill and a P-3 squadron on mainside and the yen rate was about 260 to the dollar)

Lejeune 3 different tours for a total of around 9 years, I reckon.

6 1/2 months on the Raleigh (LPD-1). The 1/2 month - we were comin' out of the Med, had already washed down in Rota, and then Terry Waite got kidnapped so we stood-by for heavy rolls while the ship turned about and went right back into the Med.

6 months on the Shreveport (LPD), 6 months on the Guadalcanal (LPH), and 6 months on the Guam (LPH)

A real tour on Misawa (3 years) in '90. I was a CTR equivalent. Misawa is a great place to be a Marine. While there augmented a Battalion in Desert Storm (was one of the last folks to the Gulf and one of the first out - there about 40 easy days).

About 18 months on DLI in Monterey CA then off to Thailand for 20 months.

Various school time on Goodfellow in San Angelo TX (a great place until they moved that Crash-Fire-Rescue school there).

It was all a pretty good time. Experiences that money cannot buy, that's for sure.

I know many of us would do it all over again if we had the same choices to make...

How about now? Would you enlist in the Armed Services given our present world situation and Military condition?

I considered re-enlisting after the events of Sept. 11th but at the request of family, Wife and children I didn't pursue it - realizing that my family has a greater need for me right now than the military does.

USN Sept 72 through Nov 74.

RTCNTC San Diego Company 345

"A" School Great Lakes Nov 72 through Feb 73

USS Protus AS-19 Guam Feb 73 through April 74 Shop X-38A worked on whatever the bubble heads broke when they were out on patrol.

USS Sperry AS-12 Portland Oregon April 74 through Nov 74 The ship was in dry dock for a major refit.

Early disgharge for a family medical emergency. My mom had a stroke and my 12 year old sister was the only one at home.

I joined the Navy because I didn't want to go to college and my draft number in the last draft in 72 was 8. I wasn't going in the Army so I figured I would see the world.

'91-'93

Orlando, Meridian, Norfolk
just schools and then SURFLANT

YN3 (made my points for YN2 but never got frocked cause I got out early). Also cross rated to PN and PC out of boredom, thhough I never did much with them.

Sinc e getting out I've helped manage a performing arts theatre, worked in various security fields, and worked as a computer tech for different ISP's and businesses. I also had a bunch of worthless little second jobs, but they didn't matter much.
