True... my next gun is going to be a Kimber .45 though. I used to own a really nice custom Series 70, but sold it. I make enough money not to care how much the ammo costs. *shrugs*

Kimbers are sweet but I want another Sig Sauer in .45, of course.

"Deagles" are only popular because of Counter Strike, and they have no real world practicality.

Go get a Kimber .45 TLE II which is basically the same gun carried by LAPD SWAT. Very nice custom .45 and very reliable.

Most 9mm rounds won't penetrate a car door... if you have to put your life on the line, carry a weapon with some power, like the .45.

*edit*
If you're looking primarily for home defense, get a Ruger or S&W .44 magnum revolver. Load it up with Cheney-style bird shot rounds, and you have a legal short-barreled 6 shot shotgun.

wtf would you want to penetrate a car door? its for home defense, not drive-bys.
i don't know why everyone says you need a large caliber gun for. i've said several times that most criminals will run away just at the sight of a gun. only in extremely rare cases will you run into someone who will keep coming at you after you've shot them a few times.

for target shooting and hd a 9mm would probably be the best compromise, as 9mm ammo is less expensive than .45 and still has enough power. if its good enough for the military, its good enough for anyone else.

You said it... 9mm is a compromise. The military uses it because it's cheaper to supply, and fresh recruits are expendable.

Special Forces and SWAT use what round? .45, because they use the best equipment available and cost is not a consideration (much like the OP stated, for those who read the thread). /discussion
