I have similar thoughts about trying something new. Last time I was so busy grinding, that I never stopped to explore the other continents much. I never tried several classes like chanter, mage, wizard, cleric, bard. From what I've read on the boards, it's not impossible to play casually. I'm guessing that ten years has helped the old school players to mature some. Having a job and family makes 8-10 hour sessions impossible for me now.
And yea, I have to come up with a name soon. Hope to see you in game.

While others have stated the leveling is too fast if all you focus on is levels you are really going to gimp out your toon. An 85 with no aa's...gl with that.

If anyone rolls a toon on zek send a tell to "pureavb" without the quotes and i'll hook you up with some plat to start you off.

Well I had some trouble making the changes required for the eqemulator(vista admin problems mostly) but got it to work two days ago. I'm now play EQ classic.

I have to say it's been a blast. It really feels like 1999 in many ways. All the old zones are populated and there is a ton of in game chatter and people. The server has between 500-600 people in peak hours, and 200-300 in off hours. The GM's have been great. The server down time for patches is like 15 minutes, compared to 8 hours or so with sony.

The down side is that it's addicting again. I stayed up until 4am the other night 😉

You can't beat the price either. It's free, but I'd encourage donations. These guys are giving alot of people something special.

necroing this thread...just got a bunch of old vallon zek players to roll on Project 1999, any of you still playing there?

so what was more addictive, eq1 or diablo 2?

EQ for me. Way more great memories and way more hours played as well. Traveling from Qeynos to Freeport, man that was an adventure that took quite a bit of time even knowing the way 100%. I still remember the first time I entered most zones for the first time and the sense of danger to accompany it. I've never gotten that feeling in another game.

I fervently hope EQ Next is more like EQ1.

Nostalgia for that fabled first MMO is usually remembered through very rose colored glasses. I just wish that niche MMO gaming was more available, and that the older games could be viable for folks that like their particular style.

Having gone back several times over the years, I respectfully disagree. The concept rose colored glasses assumes that if you could go back and play xyz, you would find out that it really doesn't offer much. This is like talking about the amazing inflatable castle fortress you played in as a kid, then finding one at a fair and realizing it isn't enjoyable anymore at all. This concept really does not apply to games like EQ. Those that have had the opportunity to go back, find that the experience is as unique now as it was then and still very much a challenging and interesting endeavor.

i was like really!?!? went to steam and see nothing for 2.50 and was like wtf?!?!?!?

stop necroing threads!!

and you're not allowed to post free servers on here. how many times do we have to cover that?
