So right now I'm in Silver Spring but I'm going to move to a new place with my fiancee. I need to be within about 15 minutes driving of the University of Maryland (just got accepted for Architecture... woo!) and we need a place that is 2 bed & 2 bath, but won't cost an arm and a leg (under 1400, preferably closer to 1200). Needs to take cats.

I've been looking online but can't find a place that really seems good, and could use some advice. I've been looking in Silver Spring and Takoma Park mainly. Safety is a big concern for her, so no sketchball areas.

Any advice?

within 15 minutes of UMD and not in a "sketchball area"? good luck! i'd say stay out of PG County period, but then you're more than 15 minutes out...

Bowie maybe?

Nah, Takoma Park and Silver Spring are both in MOCO and still within 15 minutes. Bowie is waaaay too far out. Only places I really would consider in PG are college park (some areas) and Greenbelt (some areas)

Stay in Silver Spring, plenty of decent apartments in the area. Are you a grad student? Check out the UMD's grad student website, it has a link to a number of different apartments in the area as well as some student reviews.

Good luck w/that for under $1400.

My GF and I found a condo for rent in Rockville right off of 495. It's like7 miles or so on 495 to the college park exit. We're paying $1275/mo for a 1Br and THAT was a good deal.

Why do you need 2Br/2Ba if it's just you and your girl?

good luck. take your pick:

1. under 1400 for 2 bedroom/2 bath
2. non-sketchball area

can't have both.

i'm factoring in the cluster f*ck of the beltway and rt 1. there's practically no way to get from rockville/silverspring/takoma park within 15 in my experience. i suggested bowie/lanham because they're a "straight" shot down Paintbranch

Ah, but you don't need to take the beltway or route 1. All of my classes are on the 193 side of campus. (Architecture) :)

Sorry, can't help. I live on Wisconsin near the National Cathedral. I got off cheap paying $910/month for a 450 sq-ft studio :p

coming from silver spring you don't need to hit up the beltway OR route 1 at all to get to college park.

there are some in silver spring, right at east/west and 16th street, that are not that shabby. i have had a few friends who lived in there, and they were 2br apartments.

Do you happen to know the names of the buildings?
