Calling all Backup Software Gurus

Looking for a backup software for my computer to back up both system files and data files onto a network attached server (NAS).

Need something that is simple yet smart in terms that when it does backup, it only backs up the amount of space used on the hard drive and not the whole partition, eg: if the partition is 60gb but only 20gb is used, it will only backup 20gb and not the whole 60gb. Also, that has a scheduling backup option.

This is for a Windows XP Pro. system.

I use Robocopy (free download from Microsoft). It doesn't make an image of the partition or anything like that, it just makes a copy of each file - and you can set it to only copy files that have changed.

I wrote a batch script that runs it with the options I want, and then I made a scheduled task that runs that batch script. (it's a command-line tool)

There is also a third-party GUI for it, but I'm not sure what it's called.

ohh man, soooo many choices, so little time to play with them......
do all these backup software, just back up the space used on the hard drive and not the whole size of the hard drive???

Cobian backup allows you to select which folders to backup on your system, allows you to choose full, differential or incremental. backups, choose whether to use compression (zip standard) or not, backup to external hard drives or network drives, has a built in scheduler, and allows you to optionally run it as a service...and best of all it is FREE!
