DUNBAR TWP. - Two 20-year-old Hopwood men were killed early Wednesday when the car they were traveling in crashed into an unoccupied utility truck along Route 119 in Dunbar Township.
Fayette County Deputy Coroner Robert Furin pronounced Chad Bloom of 108 Jumonville Road dead at the scene at 3:30 a.m.
Bloom was driving the 1997 Saab sedan when the crash occurred in front of the old Dunbar Honda dealership, just north of Eighty Acres Road, state police trooper Creighton Callas said.
David Works Jr., a passenger in Bloom's vehicle, was initially taken to Uniontown Hospital and then to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., where he later died.
According to Fayette County Deputy Coroner Marisa Springer, Bloom died as a result of blunt-force trauma to the head, face and neck. Springer said the cause of death remains pending toxicology tests.
She also noted that Bloom was restrained by a seat belt when the crash occurred and suffered multiple abrasions to his hands in the crash.

Further information regarding Works death was not immediately available.
Callas said the utility truck, owned by Allegheny Power, was parked about 15 feet off the road when it was struck by Bloom just after 2 a.m. as he traveled southbound on Route 119.
Police said utility crews were working in the area to replace a utility pole from a crash late Tuesday.
According to Callas, a vehicle driven by Edward Frazee, no address available, crashed while traveling southbound on Route 119, striking two utility poles and two light poles at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday. Frazee was not injured in the crash, police said.
Neither accident appeared to be related to the weather.
Callas said an investigation into the fatal crash is continuing.
