Why would all Asians know "Mandarin" Chinese?

To make this as simple as possible, it's pronounced similarly to (phonetically) You-en, except it should flow as one syllable rather than two discrete syllables. I.e. say both together quickly; it takes some practice because some Chinese sounds simply don't exist in English.

Isn't this the Chinese currency? And i think it's pronounced as You-Awn.

EDIT: Ah nm... he's right... it's You-en.

Thats cantonese... its literally spelled "Yuen"

In mandarin, its one syllable.... cant really type it out phonetically. I think its like u-when (except replace the e in when with more of an "a" sound)

ewen? like ewen macgregor?

apparently wade-giles transliteration was a lot better than that pinyin crap that the pinkos thought up when they took over.

yoo-an would be a somewhat decent approximation assuming you are talking about mandarin
