Calling 911 from a phone in different area code

I've read all the posts about this topic but I have an iPhone 5 and tried to call 911 to help a woman in danger and it didn't work!! Could my settings be wrong? It seems Google maps maybe was turned off when I downloaded the latest upgrade. Was that it?

Go to your service provider and find out, especially something as important as that. Don't make an account on a computer forum to find out. Next time YOU might need 911.....

you can pull the SIM card out of your phone and still call 911, the phones are somehow connected with the emergency network but not regular 3g or 4g. it also prevents you from being identified/tracked/located, but you didn't hear that from me

I could be wrong, but I don't believe the system uses your area code to determine your location with a cell phone call to 9-11. They use cell tower data, GPS, etc.

I doubt it has anything to do with some setting you could affect on your phone.
