Firemen showed up within 5 minutes. I know what an electrical fire smells like, that's why I called. That smell is what made me call along with the smoke permeating throughout the house.

Some kind of wiring in my central unit burned up. No mouse...sorry, just burnt wires.

No A/C? I'd kill myself.

So you don't see a fire, yet you call 911....

When my house smells like burnt silicon and has smoke in the span of a minute or two, hell yeah I do.

No, you don't. You go get your mini fire extinguisher that you bought at Home Fucking Depot for $20 and investigate it yourself.

You're a dumbass.

Maybe you should talk to your local fire department and see what they think. I'll bet they'll tell you that you're better safe than sorry and you should call them if you're concerned about a possible fire.

I'd call the fire dept. too. He called non emergency and if it is an electrical fire, or something more serious it is their job and they are trained to handle it.

If there is the smell of burning and smoke thats reason enough to call.

Hey dumbass, I had a fire extinguisher in my hand trying to see what's up. But when my home is flooded by smoke in a matter of minutes and electrical fire smell I'm calling 911.

So your home completely filled with smoke in a matter of minutes, and you took the time to post on AT? My assessment stands.

And your house being flooded by smoke with the unmistakable smell of burnt metal and romex isn't an emergency?

I've got no air handler now. I'm fine with that, I'll get it fixed. Better than my home burning down.

I was only keeping with tradition. Took me 15 seconds for the OP. Just thought I'd give you guys some entertainment.

Heh, in my defense, you did leave out any mention of your house being "flooded by smoke"

Funny how details change perception, eh?

Like I'm going to go into detail with the OP. It's almost 2:00 am and I don't really want to go to bed. My ass is checking smoke alarms, etc and wondering why they didn't go off.

Thanks.

When your house fills with electrical burny smell, you ACT. But of course you take the time to give ATOT some meat to chew on.

This is still probably the dumbest decision I've ever seen on AT. Fifteen seconds can make a HUGE difference in a fire. Call 911, then go look for the fire with your extinguisher.

Um, you have all failed to mention the most important thing

If you smell an electrical burning smell,

GO TURN THE POWER OFF.

I would do this before ANYTHING

1)turn power off
2) call 911 - need your mobile
3)Alert your neighbors
4) get a torch and if safe to do so, try and find the source of the smoke.
5) do not post on atot during an emergency situation as every second counts.
