Just got a call from someone and the Caller ID display was different on the two different makes of phone I have as extensions. They each displayed the correct number calling me, but each phone displayed a different company name as the caller.

How is this possible?

It is possible that different brands and firmware read codes differently. We have 4 or 5 caller ID displays here - same phone line - different devices (wired, wireless, etc.) and very often the displays say slightly different things. The phone numbers are all the same. Some callers have their name blocked - that can be interpreted differently on different phones. One can say "Private Caller" while another may say "Unidentified."

I can understand displaying the same info in different formats. In this case the business goes by 2 names eg. NY Pipes and Joe Smith Plumber. One phone in my house showed NY Pipes and the other phone Joe Smith Plumber.

And the funny thing is that I think I've gotten calls in the past but only one of the names showed on both phones.

Any way to see all the raw data transmitted with caller id?

Thanks for the help.

PS - Who's the picture in your avitar?

my old GE phones did the same thing. on one handset my ex put the name she knew, the other i let it auto populate with the caller ID info. it rang up with the memory first on the handsets, confused me at first.
