Callaway C16 Speedster

Top Gear Magazine had an article about the amazing Callaway C16 Speedster. They basically took a stock C6 Vette, stripped it down, and re-engineered it from the group up. Its close to the factory ZR-1 but faster due to improved aerodynamics.

Apart from the featherlight magnesium and carbon-fibre rims, the StopTech/Callaway carbon ceramic brakes and the race-sorted Eibach suspension - all items you can buy and from the C16 á la carte menu - the really stand-out features, the bits that really make this $170,000 car special, are the C16 bodyshell and interior.

I think the rules are bent somewhat with non-production vehicles. Callaway is famous for special-order one-offs.

I'd much rather have the ZR-1 personally, or just a Z06 and a bucket full of cash.

Hmm, on 2nd look, the interior looks ... not that great really. Look at the vents, like they came out of a Cadavalier.

You can make any car superfast through aerodynamics, but creating downforce usually increases drag and that's why the Z06/ZR1 have higher cD than the Callaway. It'll probably be quicker through a lap at a racetrack.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's not, Callaway's thing is building race car corvettes.
