Major: Computer & Electrical Engineering (double major)
Internship position: Software Testing

Don't call til monday. When I had a phone interview for an internship at IBM, it was the hiring manager that interviewed me and he was the one that called me back 2-3 weeks later. And it wasn't to tell me they were offering me the job, it was to ask me what day I could start working. Big companies take a while, lots of paper work to get files. But once the ball starts rolling, it goes quickly.
That's good to know. She asked during the interview when I would be able to start and she told me that the position itself probably wouldn't start until after Memorial Day due to all the processing that would have to take place. From everything she said they will get back to me (assuming I'm hired) by Friday. Since it is so late and they're making a relatively quick hiring decision, it sounds like they offered the job to someone and they backed out at the last moment or something.

edit aaagghhh, the anxiety of waiting :frown:

Call Monday. Knowing IBM you might get an answer by Mid June (you think I'm joking)

Knowing IBM, the hiring manager will need to wait until June 10th to get approval, and will then go on a three week vacation before letting you know that you got it :)

I got an internship with lockheed martin for this summer. I had a phone interview: the interviewer said they would call me back some time the next day to let me know. They called me back at 11AM the next day. Don't sweat it, they'll call.

Do not call to find out if you got job, but DO call to thank the interviewer and to ask would they happen to have any further questions for you or if their is anything else they need from you to make a decision.

It can't hurt, and waiting a weekend sucks. They will not hire you and not tell you, but you can at least get an idea as to why they didn't call, like either you are not it or they are interviewing more people.

If you call to see if you got it before the "deadline" they stated for when they will let you know, it makes you look bad if they haven't made a decision yet. From your statements here you have no legitimate reason to need to know by friday. Maybe if you were going out of town to visit a sick relative, at least then you wouldn't look like a fool for calling on friday at 4 when they said they would call you on friday.

If you are going to call, call no earlier than monday.

I'm not sure about calling to "thank" someone for an inteview. It seems a little off to me. A letter or email seems more appropriate for that cause.

I sent her an e-mail this afternoon thanking her for interviewing me & to call me if they needed anymore info. Hopefully that will do, as I agree with the others that I'd rather not bother her on the day they're supposed to make the decision. I will definitely call on Monday though

Thx all!
