To all TA members:

We WILL get our asses kicked if we don't answer the DPC RC5 challenge. What are we going to do about it? Slog along at our usual rate? That won't get it. If things are allowed to remain as they are, DCP could reach 1st place before we do, even though we are almost 4:1 closer.

In my humble opinion, we need to pause some of the OGR and SETI clients, and divert the processing towards RC5. At least until we take first place. After that, it becomes a whole new ball game; maintaing first place. But at least we will have made it.

Well, as of yesterday, we lost 1st place in OGR to /. So now we are playing catch up in both Dnet contests:|:|:|:|

In order to be number 1, we need to play the game smarter than everyone else. That means putting machines on the projects that they are most efficient. For the most part, that would mean P6's on RC5 and K6's on OGR or Gamma.

The seti folks are in their own struggle to get up the ladder.

While I understand your desire to get things rolling and put the DPC out of the way, please remember that without assimilations, we won't hit that top spot across the board.

Let's go get 'em guys and gals!!!!

Yes, I'm with Mike. Efficiency is a big key here. Use the latest Dnet 2.8010.463b Windows client for OGR and RC5 Athlons.
Some machines like P2s/P3s/Celerons are relatively good at everything. Some of the most noted best efficiency projects for popular CPUs are as follows;

K6s>OGR and Gamma
Pentium Classic (non-MMX)>Gamma or OGR if you are patient
Pentium MMX (pre-Pentium 2)>RC5
over 100mhz FSB Pentium 2s and 3s>SETI
AMD K5s>RC5

The above are Flaming recommendations by me, they may or may not be the opinions of Team AnandTech, the FDA, CIA, BVD, KGB, G2, G3, G4 or 7 of 9.
YMMV

Let's watch the dust settle a little bit from the MF6 to see how RC5 is doing, and keep those aslaminations coming!

I thought OGR didnt support pentium classics? If it does and its more efficient at it Ill move 400 mhz over ;)

Edit:
Does the latest client affect p5's or k62's for ogr? Im still using 444.

Wulf-

Definitely upgrade to at least 460 client, as work done by the older clients is invalid. :Q The 463 client has a speed advantage over the previous versions in Windows, although that may not be true with Linux.

Yes, the Pentium Classics that I have it on are 100s and 133s, they take a long time to do a unit, but the relative efficiency is there over RC5.

The benchmark was posted here but we just didn't get it into ViRGE's speed page over here the OGR multiplier is 4.5

Nice idea but the slightest pause in our SETI efforts would send us plummeting down the league ,alot of hard work would be lost.

Also TA RC5 is at No2 ,TA SETI is at No 18 in the club rankings ,I think you should stop & help us ;):p hehe
Good luck against DPC

Recruiting is the only way we're going to do it, but that's obvious. So let's act on it! If you have to, create a mini-team and convince every friend that you have in your contact book to crack RC5 - we aren't going to do it sitting on our asses.

If we divert any efforts it should be away from Gamma Flux (and it pains me to say these) and SETI.
We are currently ahead in GF, and SETI (sorry to be realistic) is currently a lost cause as far as stats are concerned - but I respect that some may want to continue in SETI as they want to.

OGR is not a divertable contest as we are going for 1st in this - the same situation as RC5, but we are closer here.

Them OGR stubs must be BIG :(. Ive had a p200 on it for 12 hrs and its only 3.2% done.

Wulf, make sure that the stub that you are working on has 6 points after it, much like...

[Sep 10 23:15:29 UTC] Completed OGR stub 25/5-18-21-3-10-4 (80,209,420,500 ...
0.00:50:04.09 - [5,744,449.85 nodes/sec]

If it only has 5 points, get rid of it. Only the 6 point stubs are being counted toward the stats. It's been a while since anyone has seen any but you never know when one might show up from some long lost buffer. Even if it does have 6 points, it can still be quite large.

Also those OGR stubs start slow on the crunch-o-meter, then the last half really flys.

Wulf: - "I've had a p200 on it for 12 hrs and its only 3.2% done."
I've had a Pentium 233 take 3 days on a 25/6 stub. OGR will teach you patience. :)

You need to post this in the GH or OT forums. That's where the big fish'es are.

It seems like a good plan... but how many computers does TA have running RC5 that would possibly be put to work on other projects? How large is the risk that the TA RC5 team will give away more CPU-power than it receives? Good luck!

The sad truth is "If we don't assimilate more PC's, We are going to end up in 2nd place in all the projects...."

IMO...

I assimilated 2 more rc5 boxes today, both Celeron 400's...unfortunately, they are only 9 hour a day machines. I should be able to add a couple more to the herd tomorrow.

>>>and SETI (sorry to be realistic) is currently a lost cause as far as stats are<<<<

Are you aware of these stats?

SETI Team stats by Nexus9
SETI Team stats by Orange kid
SETI Team stats
SETI Team stats days until... by Strates
SETI Team stats graphs by Sukhoi

And these are my personal SETI stats

My account
UK stats

SETIQ stats

SETIQ account

And last but definitely not least Hellburners stats in the forum posted daily & weekly.

SETI weekly members production
Daily Team output

Thats enough stats for me :)

I think the best idea in this thread is that we trade efficiency. Get PC's doing what they are best at doing. Between all of us we could see quite an increase in all our projects just by keeping sight of this one little fact.

If Pentimum Classics do OGR better than RC5 then I have 12 P120's that crack part time I could send to OGR.:) Vis, I will get with you on this so we can see what to do.

Everyone else, check with your buddy and see what kind of swap would make you both win!:)
