"Call receiver" technology... what is it called?

I'd like a link to some specs/prices on a server or device of some kind (forgive my limited knowledge) that will essentially sit on a number of phone lines, listen for incoming calls and direct them as I tell it.

Essentially I'm looking for the typical 1-800 scenerio: I have a single number, you call it, the technology I'm talking about sits on the line and directs your call somehow.

Links? Info? Anyone?

Automated answering system/voice mail? Having several lines (phone numbers) ringing into one is called a rotary. Then there is 'distinctive ring' where you can have several phone numbers all connecting to one line and you can tell which one is calling by the ring tone. Some automated answering devices can distribute the calls based on the distinctive ring tone.

I think what you are looking for is a phone system that does uniform call distribution.

Like this? panasonic pbx

Or did you want something a little less elaborate?
