I honestly don't understand the big deal about prestiging. Don't let people push you into it. It's just a bad idea all around - you lose everything! All in exchange for a little icon by your name!

Some people like it because they are just addicted to unlocking stuff, but if you enjoy the game itself more than the unlocking meta-game, don't prestige.

It's not just the unlocking meta-game, back in Counter Strike when I had max cash I'd buy only armor and try to scavenge the rest of my gear from the battlefield just for fun.

Some people want/need those extra custom class slots.

True, although for me I'm thinking that won't be as big of a deal as it was in MW2. I no longer have/need 3 UMP classes since there's only two or so different perk setups I use for all the weapons, no more tube class (THANKFULLY!), no sniper class, etc. 95% of the time I'm using one of two classes, at least at this point in my BO career.

You keep all playercard related stuff, although you oddly still can't edit it until you earn that ability back.

You also keep recticle customizations per gun (once you unlock that ability again), but not camos. So as soon as you attach a red dot you can use your yellow smiley face.

But honestly, prestige is no fun in this game. You lose too much and it comes too soon. You won't start seriously unlocking pro perks till the mid 30s, some of the better weapons come at the end. And it locks you out of all of the customization stuff for no good reason.

They really screwed up leveling in this game, IMO. There are way too many challenges and you level up insanely fast, and unless you want to stay at level 50 for a while, there's no time to enjoy it.

I agree, I'm at lvl 47 and I think that prestiging will take me maybe 40-60% as long to complete in this game as it did in MW2. And that's playing at a pretty leisurely pace (with quite a few wager matches included in my play timer).

BTW pat, did you get the game for the PS3 or 360?

There are 15 prestiges now instead of 10 which I assume is why they set it up to level-up quicker. If you want time to enjoy stuff in the later stages then don't presige right away.

i like the quick level.. in the past three cod i have never gotten past level 30. before i gave up on the game. so ive never unlocked all the weapons and stuff.. this time it seems like ill unlock everything for once.

Anybody know what the prestige multi-player mode unlocks? Is it just matchmaking for prestigers?

I'm just curious. I personally don't think I will prestige just for a few extra slots. I have no problem setting up a class or two when I need toI really just roll with 2-3 perk setups and just swap the gun out that I feel like playing with.

They call it "prestige mode" but it's not really a separate game mode. All it does is reset your perks, equipment, challenges, etc. back to level 1, put an icon next to your name, and gives you another custom class slot. You keep your emblems and stuff but none of your weapons, attachments, or perks.

No, he's right. There's a "prestige-only" multiplayer lobby now.

I understand that, but it's different than in the past.

In the past, as you're leveling up, you've had nearly all the good stuff for quite a few levels before it's time to prestige. Now, it seems like as soon as you're starting to unlock some of the pro perks (for me), it's ready to prestige.

Of course, you can opt out of prestiging, as always, but I like to keep playing that meta-game.

I got it for the PC actually. I was planning on getting it for the 360, but a large group of my friends went with the PC version, so I changed my order to that.

From what I've seen though, the PC version is a little more hectic (especially on Nuketown with 18 players, heh).

What about the prestige lobbies? Same stuff, just only for people who have prestiged?

Yeah, Kabob pointed that out. I didn't realized they had that now. IIRC, in past CODs they still referred to Prestige as "Prestige Mode" even though it's not a game mode.

Oh well, I don't have the game so I shouldn't talk.

You were close, it's just something new they added in for Black Ops. I haven't prestiged yet (3 levels away, although I'm in no rush) so I can't comment on how it works. What about it Buc?

I unlocked Second Chance Pro entirely by accident yesterday (I had 2/3 challenges completed for some time but the final challenges was headshot an enemy while in Second Chance). It was pure luck and since then I've been getting revived left and right by teammates which has boosted my k/d even more.

It's going to be very difficult justifying a prestige. You unlock the Galil and AK74 pretty quickly so I'm not worried about that (those are the only two guns I use) but I am really enjoying SCP.

Despite that I'm really glad they don't just give away the Pro version of the perks like they did in MW2. You got Pro with a tank of gas in MW2.

Hardline Pro was so easy to get. I got it in 1 round.

Got Slight of Hand Pro last night too.

Trying to get Ghost but no one uses sentry guns.

I'm in the same boat and someone else here had a really good idea. Use Sentry as a killstreak and just give it away to the other team.

I might only prestige once in this one b/c I don't really feel the need for any of the other classes. Only class I use is run n gunner, Hardliner, and Ghost now. Don't need anything else, really.

In MW2, I had a class for every map/game type.

Noob tube class.. Snipe class, run n gunner, cold blooded/anti-air,

Had a chance to try the SP the last couple of nights, got the tail end of a rental. I don't know if anyone else has played through it, but I like it so far.

I also have it unlocked. Last night it seemed like for each team player that was willing to revive, there were twice as many assholes who just run by or stand next to you letting you die. I guess they don't care that reviving saves the other team from getting a kill.

Personally I revive everyone I can.

Without even watching the video, I will comment. Yes, it is very easy, it takes 2 codes and about 30 seconds of your time.
