Had some good games last night with pimpjuice.

I'm actually close to getting Ninja pro, which will be my first pro perk, just have to plant the bombs to finish it up. Tried a round of Demolition for the first time before we quit and I got slaughtered. My low KD is probably about to get lower as I'll probably be trying it again to get it up to pro.

Yeah, we did pretty well overall. I don't think I'm up for demolition unless we have close to a full team. There are just too many people doing their own thing but it would be fun with some teamwork. I would definitely need to setup a class for it too with flak jacket, tactical insertion, etc...

Don't worry about k/d. Theres always someone with a better k/d and always someone with a lower k/d. Just keep having fun.

I would try and work on ghost pro too. I'm not sure what you use for perk 1 but ghost pro is great for keeping you alive. I'm working on it now.

Sorry BD, I couldn't disagree more.

So it's been about a month, now that the initial shine should have worn off for everyone, how's everyone feel about the game in general at this point?

Right off the bat I feel like lmgs, snipers and shotguns have no serious place in the game, and amongst smgs and ARs there are few real choices.

I don't remember many snipers in MW2 and everyone knows about the rampant abuse of the overpowered shotguns. In BO you actually have to use the weapons how they're supposed to be used. You cant run around sniping with a shotgun or quick scoping with a sniper.

The power and difficulty of attaining the pro perks, the simply better high level weapons, and the smaller level cap have really ruined the fun of prestiging for me, and in turn my desire to play the game at all.

I like that they made it difficult to get the pro perks. I don't think they should be handed out and its nice that everyone isn't running around with them and actually has to work to get them. It didn't stop me from prestiging (this is the first CoD game I've chosen to prestige in).

the only real game breaking flaw in Mw2 was the overpowered killstreaks. In Bo it's just famas and ak74us everywhere.

To say thats the only real game breaking flaw is a complete farce. There were suicide rocket guys, akimbo shotgun snipers, marathon knifers and cheaters abound. I've also seen lots more weapon variety in BO than just famas and ak74us. Maybe its just me.

Yeah, except everyone would want to be the one arming the bomb to get pro perks. :D

I set up a seperate slot last night after we finished with flak & ninja. I didn't think of tac insert though. I'll add that to it tonight, although that's another thing I've never used before.

I don't really sweat my k/d much. I like playing some of the objective modes at times. When I do I normally only get kills while trying to get / defend the objective.

I haven't tried Ghost yet, been using hardline so I can actually get a killstreak reward.

The shotgun ranges are the same in BO as they were in MW2. The only fucked up shotgun in mw2 was the akimbo 1887s, but that was patched out. And QSing is silly, but it really wasn't an effective tactic for short range killing, it was just a way for a sniper to defend himself. They should have done something about QSing before IW imploded, but treyarchs fix for it is way worse than the problem and completely nerfed snipers to the point of uselessness.

I like that they made it difficult to get the pro perks. I don't think they should be handed out and its nice that everyone isn't running around with them and actually has to work to get them. It didn't stop me from prestiging (this is the first CoD game I've chosen to prestige in).

This again is the very definition of imbalance. They're segmenting the playerbase into haves and have nots - when you prestiged in earlier games, the starting weapons and perks were just as good as the later ones, and the pros were around the corner. You were never at a distinct disadvantage because you were a low level, you just have less options. This is a serious change for the worse.

Maybe you haven't played mw2 in a while, but all of that was fixed in patches, aside from marathon knifers, and those were just silly distractions. And sure, people use other weapons in BO, but there are some very clear favorites, a very distinct top tier. What's the point of having all these weapons if they're not even well thought out?

They could have done a much better job on some of this stuff, things that seem so plainly obvious to me. It's too bad the blizzard mentality of really fine tuning the balance of their games hasn't spilled over since the merger.

BD - You're correct, I haven't played MW2 for a long time but I did play it for a very long time with the issues unresolved. Just because they were eventually fixed doesn't change my opinion of the many days I spent playing it.

If everything was easy to get, there would be no real incentive or challenge. I didn't prestige in MW2 because I didn't see the point since everything was easy to get and just a matter of time played. It sucks not having pro perks but I haven't seen it stop very many people from prestiging.

There will always be favorites in every game, even MW2 had favorites.

Personally, I'm more likely to try other weapons in BO because I know that they aren't completely useless and I'll still have some sort of effectiveness. There were weapons in MW2 that I tried using and completely gave up on before I even finished a round. I don't feel that way about the weapons in BO. Just from this thread alone, we've all read about people using different weapons.

What weapon in mw2 was useless? I can't think of a single one. I could give you a reason for every weapon in that game to exist, and I couldn't point out any weapon that was simply mathematically better than another with zero drawbacks.

I guess its just a difference of opinion. I have more fun with BO, and it has nothing to do with the guns. Good thing for both of us is that both games are still widely played :)

I snipers are useless? I beg to differ, went 29-1 using the L96 playing array.

Personally, I feel BO is a much better game than MW2. Even with the issues, I am enjoying it more than I did MW2. The maps could use some improvements, but after the spawn system fix, they are not terrible. I do miss 3rd person a little and the ACR a lot, but the Galil and the Commando seem to hold me over.

The only thing I really liked better about MW2 were the maps. I really feel like the gameplay is more balanced, the perks and killstreaks make more sense, there is nothing that just pisses me off like the commando pro or damage close stuff, a lot of the shit I even used to do seemed cheap at the time (scavanger with claymores) is now gone.

There may have been more fun with some of that stuff, but I believe that the game is better off without it.

I think the maps, though, really aren't as good as the MW2 ones. There isn't a single "great" map in black ops.

I think taking the Stopping Power perk out of the game really changed it for me. Even though I have been playing Black Ops religiously, I still feel like I am shooting tons of bullets into these guys.

I am slowly getting used to it, but I think taking Stopping Power out was a great decision.

I never used stopping power on any of my classes, but you're right, and i'd totally forgotten about it. Getting rid of it was a good move.

You know what I really hate....... Last Stand Pro.

The most annoying perk in the game.

Was playing WMD last night, and I was posted up on that tower by the C spawn. I was blasting people that like to camp out B by the busted wall on the A side. I kept downing 3 -4 guys there, and they kept reviving each other. I was like, wtf, why don't you people die.

I might just have to roll with it myself. I have a few friends that use it, and they barely die each cuz we keep reviving them.

For situations like those...getting shot long distance...last stand pro works really well. Closer range battles you're still usually dead because people shoot till they see the +100.

lol

Would like to play with you all sometime, but I'm usually on with a full squad every night. Send me a invite anytime though.

Anywho, here's a good way to get ghost pro. Join a match on the opposite team that your friends are on, and shoot down all their air support...hahaha.

So finally hooked up my surround speakers...or more put the new front l/r in front and moved the old fronts to surrounds and must say wow the game sounds wonderful in 5.0 setup. The 3.0 i used before was impressive but hearing people shooting behind me and grenades exploding behind me and being able to tell o thats coming from the 8 o clock position or thats the 4 o clock position impressed me. That and hearing the footsteps of people behind me. The new speakers handle the bass a bit better (better drivers) just need to finish my sub for real bass!

I play mostly core tdm, and the amount of ak74us and famas people in any given game is 50% plus. People on average are always going to gravitate towards the most effective weapons, and when there's such a clear trend it's the very definition of imbalance. It's like WaW with the mp40 all over again. It's not that you can't kill or do well with other weapons, but you're playing with a handicap.

What weapon in mw2 was useless? I can't think of a single one. I could give you a reason for every weapon in that game to exist, and I couldn't point out any weapon that was simply mathematically better than another with zero drawbacks.

You complain about everyone using the AK74 in BO and think every weapon was awesome in MW2... but everyone used the UMP in MW2 and every weapon in BO seems to work just fine...

Honestly I think a lot of people are gravitating to the AK74 because they have fond memories of the UMP, but it's actually not even that great of a gun. The 2 benefits of an SMG are mobility and fire rate, fire rate being more important. The AK74 has a lower fire rate than most AR's! The FAMAS is popular because it is unlocked early and has a really high fire rate. We are still early in the game to see what the real popular guns will be. The Commando, for instance, is a pretty solid gun but because it is unlocked so late and people are usually prestiging, you see it used very little right now.

So in conclusion, you have seen trends without actually analyzing why they are trends, and you are basing imbalance on what other people are choosing, instead on any actual imbalance. Because there isn't any. If you want imbalance, go play BC2 where an LMG can't actually kill shit.

Ninja pro can help with the footsteps too.
