TOTALLY agree... or even better, do what Epic is doing and finally use dedicated servers instead of P2P. But yeah, it's insanely frustrating to escape a firefight only to have bullets "follow you around the corner". Unfortunately, this still happens in BO now and then. Nature of the beast, as BD2003 said.

Well, the host advantage is really only a big deal on maps where everyone is running out crazy in front of each other like that. On a typical map, the host advantage is relatively small due to the client side hit detection.

Unfortunately it's not quite as simple a matter as just "delay the host" 40ms. There needs to be a golden standard as to what is actually going on in a game, and that standard is the host. It's really hard to explain, and without knowing exactly how their netcode is structured I can't quite put a finger on why it needs to be the way it is, but my intuition is telling me that it has to be the way it is unless they're using dedicated servers. But dedicated servers won't cure the jankyness, just the host advantage.

But I can say without reservation that it still has the best damn netcode of any multiplayer FPS out there. There will always be some jankyness as long as it's on the Internet, but they do a damn good job of hiding what lag their is, as long as you don't look too hard. If you do, you'll find it, but that's inescapable.

whats a good Mic for the PS3, i dont care about headphones i just wanna be able to talk with people. i forget which AT member invited me and was then teh only person in the lobby with a mic, was right before my net connection shat onitself

i use turtle beach headphones with mic. Well worth the money. They give me a huge advantage on sound and it is very easy to chat with. Add me to your ps3 (drbrock3)

I believe the official Playstation bluetooth headset is considered the best, and its around $50. They just rev'd it so maybe the original version is on sale.

yea i hate playing with headphones, i have expensive speakers for a reason

you dont have a blutooth headset from your phone? or something.. all it does it in the game is for chatting. and hearing chatting. the game is still played via speakers.

I have the Sony bluetooth headset. Works great.

PSN ID is Kryhs if anyone wants to add me. I probably won't be on tonight, but this weekend is promising.

i have this one... looks like there is prolly a newever version

humm, i really don't like the typical BT headset, ideally id like something like this
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-PlayS...9414026&sr=1-3

but wireless so i could just drape it around my neck and have the mic pickup in front or my mouth area like i do with my POS Xbox mic as well as the headset i use on my PC, i see ones out there that are expensive but really a 10$ one will work fine and i cant find those

Yep. All of this discusion aside, the only time I've had a serious issue with the CoD engine's netcode is with MW2 because, like you said, everyone's always running around crazy batshit. The slower pace of CoD4 and BO really negates a lot of the inherent problems to client-side netcode. Sure, if you're squaring off on 100% equal footing with the host, you're gonna lose, but a situation like that is rare. If you have 4 bars and you get the drop on him, he's yours.

does anyone have a link that would be helpful for having a "tweaked connection"? I am about to sell this game. I only get this lag on COD not Battlefield 2 or mag. I might try and hook the ps3 directly to the cable modem tonight but if that does not fix it, this game is worthless to me. I think the game could be awesome if I had a decent connection. I was thinking about upgrading to the next tier in speed but my upload would not increase only download.

The big things, in order of importance:
Have the fastest connection you care to pay for. Upload speed is the primary consideration, but download speed won't hurt.

Use a wired connection. You can get a decent connection with wireless, but wired is always better. Always.

Your router is the next most important link in the chain. The key here is a router that can prioritize uploads from a specific IP. Some routers will claim to automatically do this for certain types of traffic, but it's always better to do it manually.

I use a linksys router with tomato firmware. The 360 is set on a static IP, an it's given the highest outbound priority, even higher than dns lookups. It's the king of my network when it's on. Tomato also allows you prioritize overheard packets like ACK, which also helps in responding to requests ASAP.

I love seeing the host migration screen cause 90% of the time it makes me the new host.

And the last big thing is to keep other traffic at a minimum. Prioritization won't help much if your wife is watching netflix while you download 5 torrents. Bitorrent in general will absolutely ruin an online game connection because it's so many tiny connections.

The small stuff:

Use a short, high quality Ethernet cable. Even cat6 is super cheap nowadays.

If you have a switch, plug the 360 wire directly into the router, not the switch. While you're at it, plug it in the closest LAN port to the WAN port.

And finally, make sure you forward the two ports needed for xbl to your 360. I forget which two they are, look it up. Some routers can do it automatically. In the network settings on the 360, you can test your connection. If it doesn't return any sort of error message telling you to reboot your router, your ports are forwarded correctly.

About found a decent use for nova gas yet? The wikia says a full-health player needs to stand in it for 5 seconds before they'll die, which seems like an incredibly long time. But I don't know how big the damage radius is and if it'd be decent to use to flush out enemies while damaging them, allowing you to put just a single bullet or two into them to finish them off. I can't imagine many, if anybody, will use the gas mask once they start creating their own class.

Throw it at the headquarters or bomb. It might not kill outright, but itll def dissuade people from running into it. Buys a few seconds.

Likewise, equip tac mask and throw it at the site, then plant in cover and safety.

It has it's uses, just not in tdm. It's extremely situational.
