True, look at Battlefield. Started with WW2, HUGE hit. Moved to Vietnam, not so much. Took it to modern days, pretty big hit. Took it to the future, flop.

Slight fix. I don't think there was anything wrong with the future setting other than competing with their own friggen product.

Theres a reason this is COD: WaW, and not COD5. It looks like theyre finally giving the official COD games back to IW, and letting treyarch have the spinoffs like they should. That being said I thought COD3 was a decent game, so I'm still looking forward to this one.

I'd personally let IW have the extra year to do COD5 proper and get the treyarch COD:WaW in the interim, rather than stifle IFs creativity and force then to vomit out a sequel a year after.

Those games just sucked on their own, not because of the time period.

The trailer looks good, but being Treyarch, I'm just not going to jump. I know its set in WW2, but I swear it looks more like Vietnam.

I didn't even consider that game. I'm just not interested in that futuristic combat stuff AT ALL :p

I guess not too many WW2 games based off in the Japanese theater ?

Not many at all. You can't really say that Pacific theater games are unpopular in general, because few have ever been made. You've got MoH: Pacific Assault and MoH: Rising Sun. As far as I know, that's it.

Incidentally, this thread has prompted me to read a little bit on the Pacific campaign on Wikipedia. Holy hell there was some scary shit the Japanese army did. I won't go into detail (you can look it up if you want) but I can see why they're planning on making this game so much more violent and gruesome than the previous games in the series. It would not do it justice to simply reskin an old CoD game.

I always thought it was amazing that they tried to work on a Ray gun instead of nukes...and sick that they tested it on POWs.

Anyways, I wish Treyarch would do more interesting spinoffs. They've got a great engine to work with. A Star Wars game based on the COD4 engine would be amazing, for instance (no Jedi please).
