Before you say it, even Nvidia cards lose performance with AA on at super high resolutions with some of the newer games.
True but there's usually still enough performance left over depending on the resolution.

Also IME 4xAA should be a mandatory minimum as it increases IQ far more than the associated resolution raise (i.e. it's worthwhile to drop the resolution to get it).

Let's not forget not everyone has 1920x1200 capable monitor.
That and CRT users can lower the resolution. I run new games like Bioshock and MoH:Airborne and they're perfectly playable at 1760x1320 with 4xAA full details (except I reduce post-filter effects as they blur things too much and I hate that).

you mean enough performance remaining depending on the game. Flight Simulator X and Call or Juarez for example...

Demo runs very well at 1360x768 big screen with all the bells and whistles. SLIed 7800 GTXs. Look like I'll be buying this one.

Demo ran well at medium for my system, but the game was boring. Reminded me of COD2 which I thought was too arcady. COD1 is the best so far in my opinion. That health meter that came out with COD2 is stupid also. I don't see myself purchasing this rather unimpressive game. Graphics looked nice though. Ran great for a demo.
