Not sure why it took so long after playing the demo back in 2007,but i finally got about picking up a cheap retail cd copy from Amazon.Much cheaper then Steams $20 asking price.

I may or may not put the key into Steam, would it even work if i decide to do this?

Anyone here playing it?Any patches needed for it?Looks like a considerable amount of people still play it online so looking forward to that at least and the demos story i was enjoying enough so there is that.:)

I know its a older title, but from what i hear it's the best of the COD series,so was hoping i could get a little need to know information which would be great.:)

COD4 (Modern Warfare 1) was probably the second best in the series after COD2 IMO. Great game but I imagine its dead by now?

Actually it's still pretty active, the kicker is that most servers run modded.

CoD4 is still alive, most of the busy servers are running that studio map or using Promod.

Nope. I played the campaign once, enjoyed myself immensely, and never went back.

I guess I didnt feel like replaying it since things are basically railroaded.

Hands down the best of the series, IMO. My son and I occasionally play few rounds every now and then. Nearly all servers are running the 1.7 patch, so you should first update to the large 1.6 cumulative patch then run the 1.6 to 1.7 patch found here. http://www.gamewatcher.com/games/call-of-duty-4-modern-warfare/downloads

Edit: Forgot to mention that the single player campaign is freaking awesome.

Bookmarked and saved,thanks.:)

The demo gave me a good impression,i just got sucked into BF2 and UT3 so much that i couldn't honestly see myself playing a third title and getting involved lol.Now that i am dying of boredom with fps games,i figured a older title may be refreshing.

I tried getting a third replay out of CoD4 (on Veteran :|) and stopped about 3/4 of the way through...couldn't afford to lose any more hair.

I can almost understand $20 for CoD4, it's the game that made me jump ship from CS. But it's ridiculous that Activision charges the same price for all the previous installments going back to the original. Even their last promo sold CoD1 for $15...too high for a game 12 years old.

COD4 is one of the most important games of all time. Definitely worth a play through. Hugely creative campaign too.

COD4 has an excellent (albeit short) SP campaign, but the most overrated MP component ever. If it "redefined" MP shooters, then it did so for the worse. COD 5 had a similar MP with much, much better maps, yet everyone acts like that game doesn't exist.

Yeah the reason so many shooters are lacking these days is because of Modern Warfare. Luckily we have Valve making decent games for online play. But I definitely got fed up with all the new Battlefields and such.

I tried out the MP and as i expected, hardly no one playing it and the few servers i found i could jump on were just a lagfest.Teleporting players, zero hit registration half the time then other times 2 bullets do it lol.

The server list of course lies like WAW does,it could say 40 out of 48 players and its a empty server lol.Game felt different and sort of fun but its just pass its prime as a game you could get involved in and enjoy without some rage induced fits lol.

Something is wrong with your setup because after reading this I fired up the multiplayer of the game just now, and virtually none of what you said here is true. Granted there aren't a ton of low ping servers like there once was, but depending on the time of day there are still several to choose from. Make sure your game is patched to 1.7.568 and check your server browser filters. To avoid lag don't join any server with a ping over 100ms.

Remember most of these guys have been playing this game since 2007, so you can expect to get your ass handed to you by them. LOL

My end i couldn't find a server with a ping under 100ms,the ones apparently populated are actually empty.I fully patched it up of course too.Like you said the time of course may have something to do with that.Maybe more of these servers catering to East and West coast then to southern or central states?

As far as getting in there and playing,i actually did pretty good getting like 43 kills and i think 26 deaths in one game after less then a hour of playing. Not bad using the stock m5k.Found the obvious nade spamming spots that become chokeholds but overall i got the idea down quickly on some maps.It felt like like any other COD game i have played except this one is more fun.

cod4 was pretty amazing. was so much fun on lan. definitely did a lot for competitive gaming. supposedly mw2 is the best out all the mw titles. usually you can pick it up if it's ever on sale for $5-10 online.

Here are the ip's for 3 really low ping servers for me (Im located in the south east) that are usually well populated.

67.212.179.69:28930

67.212.179.68:28930

63.251.20.195:28930

One is a 24/7 Killhouse server that is spam city. :D

Oh, and like someone mentioned earlier in the thread a lot of the more populated servers are running mods, some are okay and some are total crap. I tend to stick with un-modded servers since I rarely play MW1 anymore.

MW2 could have been a great game, had it not been ruined it's by peer 2 peer matchmaking only set up. I have never been so enraged by any system more than IWNET in all my life! MW2 was the begining of the end for the CoD series for me. :(

I dont' mind mods.I most likely won't give up much of my time playing BF4 for COD4 but i figured i would see what i missed and could enjoy out of a $7 purchase:). I will try out those servers and see where it goes.

Thanks for posting those servers:p

COD 4 was an insanely great experience for me. Such an incredible game. Single player campaign blew me away and MP kept me happy for a long time, but then they rehashed it, and rehashed it, and rehashed it and to this very day it looks the same, plays the same and IS THE DAMN SAME as COD 4. You really can have way too much of a good thing.

I put in a ton of hours in MW2 but that game was the beginning of its transition into an arena arcade shooter.
