I say vote NO on a California bailout.

I say vote YES on California seceding from the Union.

You do realize that we actually bring in less federal money than we give out, right?

Are you that ignorant? Much lower than Texas, which almost breaks even.

States don't give out/pay Federal taxes. US citizens pay federal taxes and the money brought in is based on the Fed's decision on where those US federal tax dollars you are obligated to pay should be best spent. You want keep more of your money? Then reduce the size of the federal government and limit its ability to tax you and take your money out of your pay check.

California, under its present management, is a great drain on the other 49 States. Why should the rest of the country pay for the profligate spending of the California Liberals?

It would be smart if school districts sent letter to parents warning if no more sports and after school activity if prop 30 fails.

This.

Too many parents don't care if certain classes get cut, art / music and such, but god forbid they touch the funding of something that not a part of actual education. :p

One issue is Californians love voting YES on big spending projects, 50+ billion on a high speed rail, but they refuse to raise taxes for these same projects. They want their cake, but they don't want to pay for it.

So they're just like every other American, in other words? Hardly a surprise.

Californians need to suffer more, if only to serve as a warning to the rest of us.

Agree with OP, good post. Not a chance of it happening though, with all the "spend spend spend and raise taxes!" folks.

it's doesn't really matter to me since i don't event live in california, but since i'm currently reading Thomas Friedman's books 'That used to be US', i simply find myself agreeing with him again and again.

especially where he points out the problems with america's deficit. raising taxes and reducing spending is the only way forward for the US. and drastically, and immediately.
not over 10 years.

reducing the $14-16 trillion debt won't happen quickly by saving $50 billion a year...

same goes for cali's debt and every other state

Why do we have to take more money for less return? Instead, we should just reduce spending and let the people keep their money to spend on consumer goods. Reducing the amount of money people have to spend on consumer goods harms the economy - which means less tax money for the government. Bad idea to raise taxes.

I say vote NO on a California bailout.

I say vote YES on California seceding from the Union.

Give them to China for a huge cut in the National Debt.

Its a win-win.

Lower debt, and remove the most expensive state from the Union.

Again you dont know what you are talking about. For every federal dollar we give we only get back .7X.

Believe me I am the first one to hate our state government, but it does not hurt anyone else. The Welfare Queen states are mostly in the South + Idaho.

Or you could repeal Prop 13 and restore some fiscal sanity to the state. I have zero sympathy for states (including my own) where people vote to cut taxes then scream "We're broke!" Of course you're broke, you gutted your tax base. This raid on the pension system is simply a way for the rich to pass the costs of their tax perks onto the working class and the old to pass the costs of their tax perks onto the young. Classic class warfare and the rich and old are winning, again.

Yeap, the state is totally screwed. You got the liberal coasters, and the wackko righties in the valleys and neither the twain shall meet.

Bottom line. If people want things then they have to be paid for. You can't have things and not pay for them. Somewhere you have to meet in middle and that's not what happening in that state.

As a Californian, I really don't mind that. To be honest I see balkanization occurring in my generations life span. We really are divided and if people don't stop all the party nonsense we'll see the split occur.

First, Prop. 32 eliminates the union’s voice completely. Only unions collect dues through payroll deductions NOT corporations. There is a system with in every union that governs the tiny percent of the dues that go to politics and every member has the right to opt out. However, The language in Prop. 32 continues to state that even if money is collected through voluntary practices the union cannot use the money for any political purpose or communicate with their members regarding politics. Second the language of prop. 32 states it will stop pay to play. It only stops it during the bidding process, than corporations can go back to giving moneys. It doesn’t stop Corporate Super PAC’s, Wal-Mart, which is not a corporation, Anti union Billionaire CEOs, or 501 4c non profits that don’t even have to report to the FFC who gave them money. Even the Chamber of Commerce can give unlimited amounts of money to their special interests. Let’s talk Chamber of Commerce, their attorneys and members attend every MSHA, OSHA or CAL OSHA hearing I have every attended fighting to stop or repeal health and safety laws that protect workers. Yeah , that’s the folks I want to decide my working conditions and pay.

I hope you are not referring to proposition 8.

Try 187, and he does have a point. Even if it passes (and it should) there will almost certainly be litigation arguing suppression of 1st amendment.

Prohibiting the deduction of political money from worker paychecks, making all political contributions truly voluntary

The idea that this actually has to be on a ballot and voted on is fucking insane.

There are more takers than makers in CA. So while I slave away at my job, some asshole who retired from the DMV at age 45 gets to vote himself my paycheck. If it wasn't for the awesome weather and lack of Jesus freaks, I'd be outta here.

I haven't seen post-2004 data, but California pays $1 in federal taxes for every $0.81 received in federal funds. So overall California is a money source, not a sink, compared to other states. California's making to taking ratio is better than all but eight other states. Incidentally, those eight other states will most likely all be voting blue this year.

VOTE YES on 32, Vote YES on 30. We need to raise taxes, not lower them. Also Vote YES on 38 and YES on 39.

Wait, you were just bitching about unions taking money away from you and now you're pleading for the government to take more money away from you. LMAO.

No on 30 because I don't want my taxes to go up to pay for others higher education and I believe the CSU budget is already insane.
