California Town refuses to support their Fire and Police Department.

This is Pathetic even for Califnornia.

The vote means the police force must continue working out of portable waterfront trailers where its 30 employees have been since a 1995 flood destroyed the building they had occupied for 93 years. The fire department is operating out of a building that is not seismically sound

Opposition to the Mediterranean-style facility arose because some said it would violate Sausalito's feng shui, the ancient Chinese art of placing things to ensure a harmonious energy flow.

You have GOT to be kidding.

Others complained it was too expensive, too big, and would block off one end of the Main Street in Sausalito, in northern California.

<< Calif. Voters Nix New Police, Fire Building That Violates Town's Feng Shui >>

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha

that's stupid... this may happen in asia...but california?

did they consult a 'feng shui' geomancer? what a load of crap...
a real geomancer would offer alternative way to build the fire station....

I lived there when I was 12 with my Dad. Sausalito is a really funny place. They have a Coast Guard base on the southern tip and a total slum on the northern end. If there was ever a big fire it would be like the Oakland Hills fire of the 80's. The entire town consists of a steep hillside and very narrow, winding, streets.

I wonder how Fung Fooey it will be as a pile of cinder??

EDIT: Here is a picture of Sausalito from the air.

they never said they didn't support their fire dept. and why didn't you include police dept in the title, the building was for them too. anyway, sounds like the building was way to big...80% of a football field!? is the city really that big!? the Minneapolis police headquarters isn't even THAT big and that is a much bigger city with a lot more crime than Sausilito (sp).

now i am not against building a new place for the police and fire to be in (cause frankly a waterfront trailer is a joke) but i don't think they need the Beverly Hills style headquarters of all police departments. the part about blocking main street and the feig shein or whatever it is is a joke though.

and before you all call me anti police and fire, i am going into law enforcement so don't start with that. you have no argument.

This doesn't seem so unreasonable. I doubt the people of sausilito don't like their fire department they just didn't feel that that plan of the building fit in with the town. Sausilito is a tourist town that relies on its beauty. They need to be carefull not to get large ugly buildings in their core area (where this was planned) that would uglify the whole place.

You know it would really make better sense to take off the suit while you speak and then put it back on when you've finished.
But since you already took your suit off....

fine...edited out the suit. i could care less anyway. looking at that picture the town hardly needs a headquarters that covers 80 yards.

I'm really getting sick of the California bashing.

They didn't like the proposed building, they thought it was out of character for thier town, so they voted against it. They did say that they'd support the police/fire departments in a different building.

Some hippy mentioning "feng shui" at one of the town meetings hardly qualifies as a reason to hate Sausalito.

I was just messing around, relax.
The need an 80-yard municipal building to accommodate the donut shop, bar and strip club.
Duh.
I wonder if I can sue my landlady b/c my apartment doesn't promote good Feng Shui...

Think about it for a second. A police department AND a fire department. The police department has to hold and support all squad cars and fire engines not to mentnion a jail.

Next time stop and think about it before posting.

What in any of that description make you think its going to be a "Beverly Hills style" building?

Its pretty ovbiosu you are simply ignorant as to how much things cost.

<< and before you all call me anti police and fire, i am going into law enforcement so don't start with that. you have no argument. >>

No, you are simply not thinking things true.

Its also been 7 YEARS since they did anything about it. Be angry at the people in Sausalito for making the state look bad.

i did think about it. is the criminal enterprise in that city so large that they need that much jail room? why do all the squad cars have to be inside the building or in a garage? it still doesn't NEED to be that large. the town has 7500 residents for christ's sake! link

it's pretty obvious you are ignorant as well. you don't need build something that big for so few residents. it isn't proportionate.

true? do you mean through? umm yeah i did. 7500 residents? i came from a town of 8000 residents and we didn't even have a police dept. it was covered by the County Sheriff. and our Fire dept was one small building and was mainly run by volunteers. and ya know what? it was fine...my house never burnt down and if i was in need of the police they were there in a reasonable amount of time.

forgot to mention, the town covers "a mere two and a half miles" according to their official city site. i hardly think that warrants a 240 foot long building. oh and reading through the news story you linked to again, the building would have cost 7.8 MILLION dollars. for 30 employees of the police department. i can't imagine the fire department is much bigger. THAT seems like money well spent for the tax payers and residents.

and by my Beverly Hills comment i meant that does the building need to have a "Mediterranean-style" to it? again i am not against the PD and FD having a new building, obviously they should. but a $7.8 million facility that covers 240 feet is NOT something they NEED.

Pyonir I used to live there, and in Marin County for 30 years, born and raised. I worked with the Marin Co Sheriff's SAR team for about five years and it is a huge county. The town of Sausalito is a very big tourist pull from all of the Bay Area. All in all it is a good place to be but I think we got off the topic here.

Sausalito is comprised of artists and the like, so they are really concerned about the "look" of things. It really is a nice city but it seems like it is being run by public opinion rather than practicality. I think they should get their new building, but if it takes making it look like a piece of picasso artwork, whatever. Pretty soon the engines will have flowers on them...

understandable. i guess to "fit" in with the city they needed the fancy style. and a certain look. but, i don't live there and never will so what do i know. i just find it hard to believe that they don't 'support' their FD and PD. i am just showing Texmasters folly in making this thread into something it is not. it isn't about support, it is about frivilous spending.

Paramedic: did you find that the city was unsupportive when you lived there?

They are supportive of their FD and PD, they just want the new station to "fit in" with its surroundings. The current station is a nice older brick building.

Most of Marin supports the PD, SO, and FD.

fitting in and going overboard are two different things. but anyway, time to let the thread die. thanks for the info! 😉

Uh-oh. It's the ultimate showdown!

:Q BRUCE LEE vs. FENG SHUI :Q

Who would win? Sigh. I guess most of the residents of Sausalito went to Berkeley and attended the male sexuality course, too, huh?

<< Sausalito is a really funny place. >>

Maybe, but Pepperidge Farm named some damn fine cookies after them!

lol. Those Northern Californians are wierd up there. =P Maybe its the weather... or maybe cause they're closer to Canada... I dunno...

And before anyone wants to flame me, I'm just joking. This building would be monstrous and out of place.

Guys,
This has nothing to do with Feng Shui; it's about MONEY. The media is making a story where there really is none.

Sausalito is a town who's primary source of income is tourism.

Business leaders and residents in the community objected to the proposed location of the fire and police facility because it was in the heart of prime tourist area and significantly reduced the panaromic waterfront view that is one of Sausalito's prime selling points in attracting tourists.

The media just likes to write about things like Feng Shui because it's more outrageous and makes a better story.

Next, the new facility likely will be proposed to be located in the warehouse district, over near The Bay Model.

Don't believe the hype.

good question. although bruce lee might KNOW feng shui.....would that be considered a victory?

Did anything about what? You heard about the outrageous crime rates and fires in Sausalito? No? Maybe they're just fine with the police department in a trailer. I'd hardly think that you, Texmaster, would be one to insinuate that Sausalito would be better run by people in Texas than by people inside it's own city limits. It's thier town. If anyone has a right to say what building the police and fire department get, it's the taxpayers. They voted against the new building.
