11-18-2004 One in Four Californians Consider Moving

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A fourth of all Californians are thinking about moving ? either out of state or just to another town ? to bring down their housing costs, a new survey shows.

Since 1995, according to the institute, more than 350,000 residents have moved from the coast to the less expensive Central Valley.

Instead of being optimistic about life in California, a new generation "coming into the owning stages of their lives ... are exactly the people who are talking about moving elsewhere, " said the institute's Mark Baldassare, author of the statewide study.

"You're talking about your work force. You're talking about your future."

If they moved from the coast to the Central Valley they'll make the Central Valley a Blue County.

BTW, I had moved from San Jose to the Central Valley City of Merced and my quality of life increased. Santa Clara County AKA Silicon Valley sucks now compared to the way it was before the Tech Boom. Prior to the Tech Boom the cost of housing there was reasonable, the place was a lot cleaner, traffic wasn't gridlocked and it wasn't overcrowded. Now the place reeks of Yuppie Drones all trying to live the life as portrayed on TV and Commercials

Your post suggests blue folk are not wealthy. In California, as elsewhere, there are plenty of wealthy Democrats. The San Francisco housing market does not have a lot of Republicans but the housing costs are enormous. Unless I'm missing something from your OP...

Exactly. In the Bay Area and Northern California there are very few religious radicals and even fewer wealthy ones. In Southern California it's closer but there are still a lot of wealthy Dems. Your view of California is weird. There are plenty of wealth liberals in the blue states.

Well we may not have as much money, but at least us Dems are more educated.

Tell those Republicans to stick that in their pipe. Then, tell them to smoke it.

The wealthiest areas of California already vote Democrat - Text

It is the poorer areas in Central and Eastern CA, which have much lower home values, that tend to vote Republican.

btw, I am sure that CA will be a red state in 2008. Why? Because the parties will switch colors that year. Dems will be red, and Pubs will be blue. Every presidential election, the incumbent and the challenging parties switch colors. Pubs have been red for 2 elections because they were the challenging party in 2000 and the incumbent party in 2004. In 2008, they will be the incumbent party yet again, and as such will be blue.

All this article tells us is that CA is prime for yet another housing market correction again. No surprise, overspeculation with booms and busts has been the nature of that market for it entire 150 year history. The values in Sacramento, for example, are up over 100% in the last 4 years.

Yeah, then tell them to get cancer. Then tell them to get misdiagnosed. Then tell them to sue their medical provider. Then give them $3.50. Then tell them that's all they get because of malpractice lawsuit award limits. :p

Yeah. Something is wrong when someone earning 6 figures can't afford a regular 3 bedroom house in So Cal without using a low interest arm or the like. I've seen a 1000' sq foot shack in the middle of San Gabriel Valley just east of LA being asked for $360,000. The seller said this with a straight face too...

Well... I live in Solana Beach, CA. To the South of me is Del Mar and to the East is Rancho Santa Fe and to the North is Cardiff... to the West is Hawaii.. sorta SW...

Aside from me I saw a gardner working at a house in the area once who was a liberal.. But that was based on his truck bumper sticker.... which read, "Bobby Kennedy in '68"...

Engineers usually aren't yuppies (at least the way I think of yuppies).

Then why are all the richest states (except Texas) Blue?

Good! Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out of California! :p

Seriously though, the coast of CA has always been very liberal, while the inland portions of the state are quite conservative. Follows my theory that the farther away from salt water you get the more conservative you generally are.

It all depends on your definition of "rich."
